the pin stops on the rws scope rails are 2mm deep. not enough to keep the mount pins (espically with a heavy scope) from over riding and elongating the hole with a slope. thus ruining the stop hole. i purchased a 7/64 carbide end mill. i attached the mill to a drill and with a depth gague deepened the hole 2mm more for a total of 4mm. this is sufficent to stop pin over ride and 4mm is a safe depth as not to go all the way through the mount into the receiver. go slow and measure often.

I'm thinking Paul(CrimsonSky) is right on this one.  I've been talking with the other Paul at PyramydAir about getting this exact set-up.  Soon as I get paid it'll be on its way.

I know I'm a Gamo freak and all, but doesn't this sound like something the German's should be working on?? From what little I know that scope mount has been a problem for a loooong *&%^(&* time, no?? I'm not sure I want to spend $500 on a gun and start drilling the thing!!

yea, you are right but the germans think there is nothing wrong with their scope rails. they are stubborn and wrong. in addition to end milling the scope rail to 4mm i also put 3 spot welds where the screws are. i discovered movement from side to side of the scope rail when the scope and mount are attached. like a loose tooth, over time , it got more pronounced. this happened on both of my rws 54's.

The reason why Diana/RWS does not see the scope rail as a problem, is because the rifles for the European market do not have the same power as the US market. (this was told to me by another but it makes perfect sense) The stop pin and rail work fine for them. Ignorant of their biggest market?...yes... Get the new Leaper's mount and your worries are over. I mounted the new rail on my model 34 and it was perfect.

The croshairs of the chosen scope would look right down the center of the barrel??? Am I the only one that tries to make every effort to mount scopes as low as posible?? Yes, Diana guns have "solid mount" issues as we all know. Of course I will get "Jumped On" for this,,The REAL problem is the Diana Base itself,, Slight modifications to it from the factory would eliminate all the "Back Yard" mounting & "Band Aid" Mounts becoming available now. Sorry,, I just had to say it. My 4 Diana guns that I own now,(MANY in the past) all are doing well with my own "Back Yard" mounts,, (I would not recomend nor condone my methods to others). Lower is better,, I personally dont want my scope mounted high atop a mount that is unreasonably high, just so it wont "move". Untill Diana GETS THE HINT,, GEEZZEEE,, The new mounts becoming available are probly the way to go for those that want a SOLID scope mount. Still,, I think,, lower is better?? Tim.

Trajectory 'stretches' with a higher LOS . . .

The 52 FT with the Optisan MTC has a POI within 1/2" of LOS {oops~ from 11 yards}out to 55 yards.
LOS above the muzzle is 2-5/8" andshoots very smooth withJSB 8.4 @ aconsistant930fps measured with an F1 at 4' from the brake.

After mounting the Leaper's compensator rail, I optically centered my scope. With just a few adjustment clicks on the turrets, I got these results at a bench rest :

I'd say the new rail was right on the money ;)

Have you've tried other distances?

On my setups, I typicallycheck from 10m to 60m {or more}in 10m increments for windage and elevation verification. Just wonderingif you'd tested that already.

I'll tell you RJ, you should take some pics and patent that system!!! That thing is not going anywhere bro!!!! This is the ONLY reason I never purchased an RWS. I have 4 Gamos, and a new one getting a Tuna treatment as we speak!!! My sons and I are long shot freaks. We all have large scopes on the heavy side. With the right one piece mount and a Turbo Tune, we've NEVER had any creep at all. I have friends, not half as capable as you, try band aid fixes time and time again on their German Girls. They usually snap that little screw in the back, or worse, ya know?? I have a small air conditioning business, and I'm real handy, but I just can't bring myself to mess with my guns. I don't have the tools or knowledge. I swear by the Tuna. You definitely impressed me with that fix tho bro!!!

well joe, its all labor except for the $16.00 end mill i purchased. i had the spot welding done at a shop locally for $10.00 a gun. the most important thing  is to remove all oil and grease around and under the scope rail. this avoids discoloration of the blueing. use degreasers, alcohol and an old tooth brush. 4x32 scopes weighed 8 to 11 oz, today many are over 20 oz. they act like a dent puller on your reciever and loosen up. cosmedically it looks ok. where the phillips screws were there is a little melted swirl. a touch of birchwood casey blueing with a q-tip on the 3 welds, it looks factory.

joe, you don't to mig or tig weld. it will look ugly and ruin the blueing. spot welding is the way to go. it will look like a factory job.

Paul, I'm envious even though the Bible says I shouldn't be. I know you get some perks because of your association with PA but if you can get his mount and already have it set up on your 34 why can't I get one too? Oh I have it on back order alright but the delivery date keeps getting pushed back.Impatiance is not a virtue I know, but it's hard to wait for something that has been advertised for so long that is still not available to the paying customers. If you would like to pull some strings and find a couple of extras laying around and ship them to me I would gladly do a review and tout the benefits that I know this mount will provide. I think I could sell a few of them for you and PA if I could just get my hands on a couple.I don't even mind paying for them. How about it Air gun Bud?We could keep it our little secret ya' know.
