QB78 part dealers in Europe?
« on: July 22, 2008, 11:12:15 PM »
Hi, I've never posted here before but wanted to ask a question about QB78 dealers in Europe. I quess most of you live in USA so maybe a wrong place to ask :) It's hard to find parts here and even harder finding a dedicated QB tuner. At the moment I'm after replacement valve stem and tuned/drilled piercing body because screwed up the old one. Any help appreciated and if someone knows a good deal anywhere or has one spare, I do appreciate if you give me a tip so I may continue the short CO2 shooting period here, it's getting colder after a month or so here in Finland.

Toivottavasti :)
You can try contacting Ian Lamb in England who is a good CO2 tuner. His website is here:

http://www.qbtune.zoomshare.com/

The UK importer is SMK but I am not sure if they sell spares. Their website is:

http://www.sportsmk.co.uk/

onnea :)

QB Tune won't import any valves if I understood right this part:
"These new restrictions, as applied to us include but may not be limited to the suply of the following parts.
Complete air guns
Pressure bearing airgun parts (Clyinders, pistons, seals)
Trigger assemblies
Barrels
MuzzleBrakes
For now we cannot supply any of the anove parts. Our RFD status is under review but for now that is the situation."

Heh, London177 you've learnt finnish somewhere I quess :) Nice to see some finnish words among all this english.

Hi Rockajimbo.
Importing the parts is fairly easy, selling them, without RFD or face to face is ILLEGAL. We can only supply the "restricted" parts as part of upgrade or repair. I'd love to do it but my understanding of the law prevents us.

Have you tried either Terry Robb or Archer Airguns in the USA ?????

Archer Airguns accepts orders from several European countries, including the good, old UK (I'm a Brit). But please be sure that it's legal for you to order specific parts or accessories from us! As far as I understand the recent UK laws, we can ship you any part, scope or whatever that you could legally purchase by mail order from a UK supplier. But please don't order anything that you would legally need to purchase face-to-face. For example, I believe that we cannot legally supply barrels to the UK.

If my understanding of the new laws (we've lived in The States for over 10 years now) is incorrect, please let me know. Obviously we have to comply with the restrictions, however misguided they may be...

OH Boy!
One can of worms now thoroughly opened!! :-)

Well, it's my understanding that to SUPPLY "restricted" parts including trigger assemblys, seals, barrels etc is now an offence in the UK, unless the deal is conducted face to face and by a Registered Firearms Dealer. BUYING the parts is legal as is selling the above parts as if you were selling a second hand car to a mate, i.e. Not by way of business or trade. Therefore for a USA trader to supply the parts to a U.K. resident is fine, just people like me cannot sell the parts on, even abroad, unless it is part of a repair or upgrade.
The offence is to trade in these parts within the U.K. , not the occasional sale of a part or an airgun, buying is fine!!
Crazy or what??

Do we suffer from misguided, knee jerk legislation? Oh we certainly do!

By the way Stephen, I guessed you were an ex-pat from a recent e-mail which mentioned 50 quid ! :-) And I certainly don't blame you for getting out!! :-)

Ian,

Thanks for your reply. I appreciate you taking the time to interpret the new UK laws for me (and, I'm sure, others). Yes, it sounds completely crazy and confusing to me too!

Have a lovely, warm pint of bitter for me in the garden at a nice, old country pub this evening :-)  I probably miss that more than anything...

Stephen,
That is my (ours here) interpretation of the law. It applies to those SELLING airguns and "restricted parts"  "by way of business or trade" in the U.K. but don't take it as gospel! It's our spin on a badly implemented and poorly thought out law.

One pint of room temperature G.K. I.P.A. will be consumed this evening with you in mind.
After the first one I'll forget why I'm there and just have to drink a couple more to see if that jogs my memory. 8)

Take care

Ian

Strangely, if I buy a 'seal' from Ian Lamb or Stephen Archer I and they are breaking the law in the UK.  Yet I can buy as many O rings as I want to pay for from Polymax - http://www.polymax.co.uk/acatalog/

All rather silly I think   :0

Steve,
It's worse than that!
You are not breaking the law as buying is not the offence. Stephen isnt breaking the law as he is not selling from the U.K.
Only Ian Lamb is in trouble for selling "restricted" parts, within the U.K. when he is not an RFD, dealing in parts by way of business or trade and the deal is not face to face.

Send your QB to Ian for a new valve, he can buy it, fit it and charge you for the repair all by email and post and that IS legal!!!

Sheer madness!

Thanks for all the info you've given me! Ordering from USA makes a lot of inconvenience because of taxes and customs etc. and makes it a pain in the a** for such a small amount of parts to be shipped. T.R. Robbs website caught my eye but they don't have an e-mail adress, those parts looked just what I needed! And I don't even know if they ship here either. Well, I should keep looking if somewhere may I find a source for nice tuned parts.

The QB78/XS78 seems over the last couple of months to have become even more popular in the UK.  I think they always were but kept in the 'closet' for fear of being frowned upon by 'real airgunners'.  Well, no more, for a lot of the 'real airgunners' have been re-educated by the likes of Ian Lamb, Ori8, London177, Dungy, myself and many more.  Don't be ashamed of the 78, be proud of it for it's a wolf in sheeps clothing.  All that is needed to make it look and perform like a Wolf is a bit of enthusiasm and a bit of tweaking.  Never does a gun respond better to a bit of TLC than the 78/79 series.  Sad thing is when I CAN'T shoot my 78 for whatever reason I fall back on my S400 but just isn't the same fun.  Clinical yes but not the same fun factor.  Another thing that stands out is the massive amount of help 78 owners are prepared to give each other.  Nothing is too much trouble and I find that very refreshing.
