Whats the bst Starting Rig?

I want a PCP, but i dont want to or have a fortune to spend. Im thinking either a disco combo, or a Pump, and a B-50/1. What would be better for hunting and long range work? Im planning on getting it in .22? Thanks.

Given your requirements, the disco pump combo sounds like it would be the best bet for you. Lightweight, easy to carry hunting PCP with enough power for most any air rifle game, very reasonable price for starting out in PCP rifles.

I would agree with PeakChic,,,, the disco gives you a package deal, at a super price, that gives you everything you need to hunt or target shoot.  I had a disco when they first came out.  I had some problems with mine and wound up returning it, but I've always liked the rifle and have been continuing to follow the forum talk on them and from what I read most people are very happy with their discos.  The gun is nice and light and like Stephanie said very easy to carry in the field for long periods.  It has  plenty of power, certainly more than enough for any small game hunting you'll use it for, including game up to the size of raccoons, and their customer service reputation is great in case you ever do need or want anything for the rifle.   I think the problem with my disco was simply that it was from the early batch of rifles, but from what I've been reading the quality of the rifles is very good at this point...  

I miss my disco,,, just ask Joe/Cuz,,,, everytime I go to Cobra Airguns I wind up playing with the display model disco..  I will order another one one of these days.  It really was a nice rifle and you certainly can't beat the price for a gun AND a pump......

Brody I have a .177 Discovery and it is a excellent rifle for a first PCP . I use it for target shooting and because of pellet weight 50 yards is its max . So if you are going to do the hunting at over 35 yards do get the .22 The pellets for a .177 just are not heavy enough to take full power and distance . At 25 yards it will put 10 shoots in a dime size group . At 50 yards I have to really work at it with fill pressures and the power adjuster to keep 10 shoots in a 1 inch group but I feel that the heaver .22 pellets would do just fine . I might get a .22 barrel and bolt and try . But right now I'm trying to get use to my Career 9 mm at 50 yards. The trigger is due able out of the box . But it is easily made much better and if you read my post on the trigger mod in the Discovery forum with a little adult supervision you could do it . Marvin

I have tried the Team Crosman A-Team Disco's, NICE! And maybe available from the Crosman Custom shop this year? Tried two stock Disco's also, okay rigs, both shooting far right, so so trigger, light.
 We've had a few Bam's through the house, easiest airgun to work on you can find. Garb ChrisK's Bam "BOOK" and have a blast.

I'm with John on this one, the B51 tuned from Big Ed is pretty hard to top.  For just under $400 shipped it is a great deal.  I would however never buy another that hadn't been tuned first, the first one I owned was like a bad case of the stomach flu!

Come on, Dan, it wasn't THAT bad, it just hated YOU :-)!  I would agree with the Big Ed BAM, but I'd suggest you go with the thumbhole stocked B51.  I got the 50 Dan had, he'd already done some work on the stock but it was still not great.  I bought a 51 stock off the forums, but traded the rifle off before it arrived.  Had I gotten that stock first, there's a good chance I'd still have that rifle.  If you're even close to average size, that stock will fit like a glove.  Good luck, and keep us posted.  Later.

His tune is $25, hard to beat.  Plus Ed is great to deal with, super nice guy.  I have owned both a B50 and a B51, one stock and one tuned.  The B50 stock is danged near unshootable unless ou are a gorilla or rework the stock first.  The one I sold DaveD had been reshaped and had over 1" removed from the buttstock, and still as Dave said not very nice.  My untuned gun shot pretty good for about a week then self destructed.  I replaced all of the seals TWICE as well as the exaust valve poppet and it still leaked.  My Big Ed tuned B51 is one of my favorite airguns to shoot.  It shoots smooth, it shoots accurate, and above all it doesn't ever leak.  Big Ed has these things figured out, there will be no lemons from him.

I like my B50 a lot. It's stock. I'd like to get BigEd to tune it for me, since I don't have time, and he really seems to know what he's doing. Right out of the box, mine shot over 860 fps with 14.3gr Crosman Premier HPs, and it's accurate. My muzzle crown looks good on mine. I thought about getting a LW barrel for it, just because they're such good barrels. It's a .22, because I wanted it for squirrel hunting. It's the only gun to make me seriously consider giving up hunting squirrels with a rimfire. You could just go ahead and get a 909 Big Bore, or a Dragon Slayer. But then, they are a bit loud for the backyard.
