A few

questions for those who hunt with airguns.Do you ever go out over night, or far from home, or just close day hunts? What do you usually carry with you ?[other than pellets and airguns!] I havent hunted ever, just shot birds when I was a kid, but I want to when I get good enough.I have been reading books on predator hunting, varmint hunting, etc. to pick up any tips.Do you bring only 1 rifle, or a few if you go out for longer than a day? I would eventually like to go out for a few days with a minimal amount of gear, and live off what I shoot.[rabbits and/or squirrels, or other pellet approved game!] That will be after MUCH practice, but I want to do it.

When I lived over in South Dakota I would headout on overnighter's and campout in the stick's even during winter. I also did some 3day hunt trip's over five miles out from my farm with a backpack, camo and plenty of ammo. I would bring dried veggies along but would plan on adding them to my harvest which I was lucky enough to harvest something to eat on each trip. Take plenty of water, first aid survival kit just in case MaNature decides to keep you out longer then you expected. You alway's here of people getting lost out there and they were no more then a couple of miles from safety . The biggest killer out there is fear once their lost, they panic and head off further into the wilderness.:( There's plenty of sign's out there just learn how to read em and MaNature will be happy to help. I alway's take one Air rifle and a pistola for close up work, it's just a matter of picking one out hehehe. Ed

Thanks for the reply Shadow. That is what I was looking for.I carry a small pack w/ emergency items in it whenever my wife and I go for a hike on our camping property, or any camping trip for that matter.I like to use some of the items when we camp. Its better to know that you can do it when you dont need to, instead of not being familiar with them when you need them!![ did I say that right?] Do you go out on longer trips now? That will be a blast when I can do it.So many people I know say that the thought of eating a squirrel is disgusting. Hey, meat is meat. I remember my father told me once," you eat because your hungry, if it tastes good, its a bonus." I would eat possum, whatever. There are many recipies for squirrel, possum, etc. that look good. You dont know if you dont try it!!

As an Eagle Scout (haha) and a USMC Infantryman, I would say your most important things to take into the sticks are (More or less in this order)

-WATER (AND) Iodine Tabs or filter for drinking. You cant rely on finding water but In your climate it might be different...
----A FRIEND if possible!
-Emergency Blanket AND Quality Sleeping Bag
-Good Flashlight (Think Surefire) w/batts(I put this before matches because you can start a fire with a Surefire)
-Good knife (not CRKT, lol)
-Bic Lighter(s) AND Waterproof matches
-Signal mirror....When your cheap flashlight goes dead
-If youre in Predator country, you might want to take a decent Pistol (BANG BANG kind) with you

The first few are necessities for Survival/Rescue, everything else is luxury.
