Yeah, Puff the Magic Dragon would be Sucking Chest Wound the Dying Dragon after he runs into you with that one. I still think a 20 or 28 gauge smoothbore barrel would be good for that one. A modified Mossberg or Remington 20 gauge barrel with screw in choke tubes would make a sweet bird and squirrel gun out of that. Then switch back to the .50 tube for the big uns. That stock is beautiful, looks more like mahogany than walnut. I gotta get one of those. I'm thinking about selling all of my springers, except for my favorite ones, to help pay for one of those Dragon Slayers. I have a 909 Big Bore, and it's sweet, but I still want a .50, especially since I have 2 .50 cal muzzle loaders and bullet/ball molds for them. I'm telling ya, that Maxi Hunter would be a sweet slug for one of those.

BTW, how's the recoil on that one? Seems like it has to have at least some kick, considering the weight of the projectile.

Pretty good jolt with heavy slugs.

Round ball {182grain}only picks up the muzzle an inch or so. The Lee cast .500 S&W slug in soft lead casts about 460grains and lifts the muzzle about 3", with a scope eye style jolt . . .

Tim and J I don't know if it is of value to you . But the place where I buy my lead has 50 cal. .502 340 gr. r n f p and .512 -.515 425 gr fp. slugs. They are lead with a moly coat on them .

I have to size them down to .495"
« Reply #9 on: July 27, 2008, 04:37:01 PM »
Hard slugs are really rough to run through thesizer. Even the S&W slug has to go through a .500", .498" then the.495" die twice, once in each direction. That's why I don't shoot a whole lot of them, because it's alot easier to plink with ball . . . but the big slugs sure do a great job for energy tranfer.Moving a 498grain slug as big as your thumb at 660fps, critters justwanna take a nap for some reason . . .

I did not see that you were under sized a little and I can see that would be a lot of work .Marvin
