Co2 loves heavy pellets.
« on: July 27, 2008, 03:21:48 AM »
(Just trying to drum up a little board activity)

Ran some chronograph/accuracy tests on  9 differnt co2 guns...4 QB's, 3 Crosmans, 1 RWS 850, 1 Talon SS.

EVERY SINGLE ONE of them gave the best energy rating and accuracy as good or better than light weights when using heavier weight pellets.  Are some benefits to higher speed for trajectory so long as the BC is also high, but heavier weight pellets (of good quality) are amazingly consistant.  Think co2 just likes the added resistance of a hevy weight...springers seldom do.

So...if you haven't given them a try, put these on your list:

.177  RWS Supermag (a 9.3gr. WC)
Crosman Priemier Heavy ( 10.5gr. RN)
         Kodiak (10.5gr. RN)

.20    Crosman Premier (14.3gr.)
         Benjamin Cylindrical (14.3gr.)

.22    Cro Magnum (18.2gr. HP)
         Kodiak (21.3gr. RN)

.25    Ram points (27.3gr. Pointed)
         Kodiak (30.5gr. RN)

OK, you got my attention. I guess I'll have to tune and power mod my QBs and try Crow Mags, Kodiaks, and even Eun Jins in them. I have a box of the Crosman Premier Heavies(10.5gr RN0, that I got from a pawn shop for 10 bucks out the door. They had had them for about 7 years and they never sold. Then I spotted them, looking sad and lonely on that shelf, along with a box of the .22 premiers, and took them both home with me. Great shooting pellets. I almost hate to shoot them because I can never get that kind of deal on them again.
My pneumatics, both pumpers and PCP, seem to prefer the heavy slugs also. My Benji/Sheri 392 loves the superdomes, cro-mags, kodiaks, and eun jins. It hits HARD with the eun jins.

I'm ordering a QB-79 in the next few days and I'm getting ready to order some .22 pellets from Pyramid Air.  These seem to be the heaviest pellets available: http://www.pyramydair.com/cgi-bin/pellet.pl?pellet_id=600
At 32 grains, is this too much, or should my QB like them?  I was also thinking about getting a few tins of Kodiaks based on what I've read here.  Any other suggestions to a newcomer to CO2 guns?  Also, I have access to a machine shop and I plan on doing the Charlie da tuna tune to the gun.

Haven't tried those..suspect they might be a bit heavy, esp. for a stock gun.  Even tuned up to the max, not real sure you'll get much over 500fps from those heavy weights (and 500fps would equal to about 17.7 foot pounds of energy)...considering the length of them, would have a job getting them loaded (the length of the feed trough is not all that long).

think I'd stick to 14.3gr. to 21gr (the Kodiaks would proably be the upper limit).
