(online shooting match) Updated, with rules!!!!!!
« on: October 13, 2006, 06:57:49 AM »
Ok guys, here's the match as I see it:

go here and download/print your targets:
http://10xshooters.com/BlackDeathChallenge/

we’ll use the target on the far left of that page, the “main Target”.

5 shots total, with a possible score of 50.

The distances will be:

10 yard pistol open sights/red dot 1X zero mag

20 yard long gun open sights/red dot 1X zero mag

40 yard long gun or pistol with scope

so three different matches.

Pistol definition: 14" or less barrel, not including muzzle brake.  No buttstock, just grips, or a two hand pistol stock that DOES not have anything to rest against the shoulder.  Open sights OR a 1X zero mag red dot.

The allowed shooting stances would be pretty much anything WITHOUT using a rest, vise, bags, picnic table, kids shoulder, or playground equipment.  So offhand, sitting, prone, crouching, coughing, sneezing, sleeping, whatever, etc…..

NO RESTS, everyone got that?  Yes, you CAN sit with the pistol and rest it in the crook of your opposite arm, but I would consider shooting a rifle while leaning up tight against a tree a little unfair:)

My plan, if it's ok with Gene is to run a match like this weekly. Then post our results to one thread somewhere here on the forum.  Maybe I could just put up a thread every saturday morning and call it "match summary 10-14-06 thru 10-20-06", and everyone could just snap pics and post their results.  At the end of the week, we declare a winner, he/she gloats and we all tell him/her what a great shot they are.

Who knows, if it all goes down good we could even get some prizes together, like a "6 Month high scorer" deal?  I have many pairs of old smelly tennis shoes I'd be willing to donate, ....but only to a good cause:)

I'm up for it, but I think I'll use my CFX instead of the 350 :-).  Course, open sights could be a problem, I took mine off the CFX and gave them to Vince!

Wooooooooooop Peeeeeeeeeeeeeee ..... :)

I am up to it. I will use my CFX .177 also. I think it is the only .177 I have with original iron sites on it..:)  May have to add another piece of plywood to my target though. At 10 yards it tends to blow through the 5/8" plywood...:) or was that my Samatra... he he he

Let us know when we can start Dave..

Thanks

I'm in!  I love shooting with open sights.  Here's just a couple of questions for this newbie:
Standing position (offhand)?
Point me in the direction of these Black Death targets.
thanks,
bob

Here's a link to the Black Death Targets, everyone.  http://10xshooters.com/BlackDeathChallenge/  .  Sounds like fun, but which target do we use?  Dano, since you came up with this, how about picking out a target and time frame for round 1?  And firm up the basic parameters of range, hold, sights, etc.  Looking forward to this, folks.

hehe, I step away from my computer for a couple days and there's a bunch of posts for this.  I have family in town, and more on the way this afternoon, but as soon as I get time tonight I'll try to come up with some real rules.  My original thought was pistols at 10 yards, with open sights, we can pick, or I can make up a 20 bull target sheet, 20 shots, most bulls hits wins.  No rests, but any shooting stance you want, including sitting indian style, or laying on the ground....but I repete, no rests or scopes.  As far as long rifles, maybe we should make the distance a bit further(20 yards?), for a separate competition?  I dunno guys, I've never even been to a real shooting match, so any suggestions or rules you guys have would be great.

I think I'm in trouble already!  I don't have a pistol (yet!), and at the moment, neither of my rifles has iron sights.  Gave the CFX sights away, and the 350 rear sight was damaged when I got my rifle.  New one should be on its way from RWS.  So what do I do in the meantime?  Maybe extra range if using a scope?  Either way, guess it's time I started practicing without my rifle rest.  I was right, I AM in trouble!

Dano, does a cane disqualify me?...:) I would have to use it to stand up and it is kind of a  rest in its own way.. he he

And Dave thought he was in trouble......:)

No one has to stand up, I said nothing about standing up, I even mentioned indian style sitting.  Gene, can we sticky this somehow, so it stays where people can make suggestions till we have a list of solid rules?  I'll start ok:)

1) 10yards, open sights(/red dots?) pistol...ANY WAY you want to shoot(sitting, standing, squatting, laying prone), but NO BAGS!

2) 20yards, open sights, rifle...ANY WAY you want to shoot, but no bags.

3) 40 yards, any scope or whatever helps you, ANY WAY you want to shoot, but NO bags.

I'll either find some printable targets with 20 bulls, or make them for us to use.  Most bulls in 20 shots wins.  What do  we win???  Uhm, bragging rights I suppose, unless someone has something to offer up...don't think that's needed though, bragging rights is cool:)

Anyone else?

I'm thinking why re-invent the wheel:
This target and scoring procedure: http://10xshooters.com/BlackDeathChallenge/BlackDeath_Challenge.pdf
Open sights, no bench or bags.
10yds pistol
20yds rifle
