They know Bob has my Whisper!

They have no fear!

So I was outside barbecuing a burger for dinner, when not even 20 ft. away I saw a rabbit eating my grass.  Now the whole reason I got into this addictive pastime, was to protect my grass (and garden) from rabbits and my fruit trees from squirrels (last year, they took all the fruit, not this year).  I was tired of dealing with the rabbits and squirrels, so I dug out my old Daisy Powerline 880 (probably 20 years old).  If I could get close enough, this was a good rifle.  But unfortunately, I couldn’t always get within a good shooting distance.  I knew I needed a more powerful rifle, because I wanted to make humane kills.  My research led me to this forum and I eventually bought a Gamo Whisper thanks to the reviews and comments.  Now I consider myself to be one of the lucky few who made it in under the deadline and my Whisper is currently with the great one waiting a Turbo Tune.  But you know, I think the rabbits are aware of this, because I haven’t been outside shooting and they have regained their courage.

Which leads me to tonight.  Believe it or not, but that rabbit I saw by the BBQ just sat there.  I even made a few steps toward it, and it just sat there mocking me eating my grass.  So, I walked into the garage and brought out my 880.  As I was walking around the back, I saw a different rabbit dinning on my tall fescue.  Again eye contact was made, but the rabbit was not afraid.  They know that they are safe from the Whisper.  This rabbit was about 22 yards away and a little bit farther away then I would have wanted with my Daisy, but I had to try.  It’s been almost two weeks since I’ve done any shooting and my first shoot was just a bit high, no scope, just open sights.  The rabbit merely hopped about six feet and looked at me.  Now, believe it or not, but I was able to reload and pump up the gun while the rabbit watched, I couldn’t believe it.  Not the quietest gun to pump.  Took one more shot, and the rest is history.  The 880 may not be the most powerful gun, but it is very accurate within 20 yards.  Just ask my new friend.  When I made it back around to the BBQ, the other rabbit was gone.

Can’t wait to introduce the rabbits and squirrels to my Turbo Tuned Whisper!
