Help with a scope!
« on: August 21, 2008, 12:37:13 PM »
I just returned my second Centerpoint 4-16x40. I think my new B26 likes eating them! Any suggestions under $100. I have,  up until now, had very good luck with them. I have one on my B30 (which is a pretty harsh rifle) and one on my TF89. For some reason, I was getting fantastic groups and then they would shift about 3 inches in another direction. I'd re zero it, get a few good groups and then it would shift again. Both scopes did this. I thought about an exchange because I really do like the mil dot reticle and the AO. If anyone has some scope suggestions, I'm all ears. BTW, I have a one piece mount, everything is tight, including all the stock screws. I've tried 5 different pellets, the crown is in good shape. All this leads me to believe that it is the scope.
Thanks

try some white nail polish on the leading edge of your scope rings as they touch your scope, let it dry and then go shoot. If the white blob breaks and shifts,  you could be getting a bit of scope creep, i had very similar symptoms to yours and thisis how i discovered it.

I have had good look with the BSA airgun scopes,  Bad luck with Barska.  Mine are about the same.  Usually they shoot good and the group starts moving, sometimes every shot.  Only buy a scope with a lifetime warranty.  Keep your receipt.  BSA and Leapers will replace their scopes for $10.  Barska wants $25.

I have had good luck with BSA air rifle scopes.  I think that the BSA 2-7X 32 mm AO for $50 is a very good buy for an inexpensive airgun scope.  Very crisp even down to 5 yards, and plenty of magnification for me, but I hardly ever shoot targets or small game at much more than 30 yards.   What you lose in brightness and top-end magnification with this little scope, you gain in field of view and ease of focus at the exit pupil.  Lightweight, easy to swing up and bring on target quickly, & so far as I can tell after about 1 month of use, seemingly rugged enough for the B26 / 177.  But perhaps not the scope best for bench rest shooting at 30+ yards or for low light/twilight hunting.

I have had 2 scopes on my B26 and I like them both.
I do use the Accushot 1 pc high mount and I like it too.
First I had the BSA 12x and it was fine, just kind of big for the gun.
Then I believe Peak Chick suggested a Golden Antler. It is well scaled for my 26 and has not had a lick of trouble yet.
I do like mildots but the GA has the clean plain reticle and it's been nice for a change. I think it was a good buy and well under a hundred.
