S410 Decision
« on: August 28, 2008, 02:13:49 AM »
After doing way too much reading ( is that possible?) and internet surfing for background, I finally made the decision and pulled the trigger on the order for a left-handed .177 AA S410 ERB in Walnut.  I purchased the rifle from straightshooters, where Kevin and Craig spent a ton of time on the phone with me answering my questions and providing all kinds of info.  That's the good news...

Now for the bad news - I have to buckle down and do the hard part of waiting a long time (it seems to me) for the rifle to arrive.  Why does time pass so slowly?

I feel like a kid waiting to open his presents on the holidays.

I've recently read that the OEM magazines that come with the S410 can be unreliable, and that a quality aftermarket magazine and single shot tray are available from RC Machine & Tool ( http://airgunclips.com) that have been favorably reviewed by S410 owners.  Anyone have any experience with these items?

To ease the pain of waiting I'm shooting the C1 more often, and the block of putty that I use for my trap is getting a workout.  While its more than adequate for the  C1, I'm wondering how many inches of putty would be necessary to stand up to the S410 at its highest power.  I'm sure that today's backstop needs shoring up, and I like the way putty absorbs the lead and helps prevent bounce backs.

Congrats on the new shooter.   Lookin forward to your posts when you get it and try it out.  I'd love to have one of them and hope to some day,,, just don't have the funds for such a purchase anytime in the near future..   :(

We have an AA410 , factory clip not sooo good, never cyled well and the face plate cracked fast, we have both the 10 shot clip and the single shot loading tray from airgunclips, EXCELENT quality, never a problem, super fast shipping. Go ahead and order one now and you should have it in three days, save the factory clip in new condition and you might (I have no idea why though) for pretty much what a good clip is going to cost you.

Still waiting with heart pounding and hands sweating!!  After 20 years not feeding my airgun addiction I finally broke down.  My Wife nods her head up and down when I try to argue that I've been saving all those years for this purchase.  I don't  think she believes me, but she "understands."  She's a keeper for sure.

I also have a AA410S....a carbine and in .22 caliber. Got it 2 months ago from Pomona Air guns when I was in California for a visit. You'll totally enjoy the air rifle. I didn't know about the problem with its ammo clip. I haven't experienced anything wrong with it yet. Thanks for your link....I'll check them out later....you never know, maybe I'll buy a couple of clips for backup.

I never had a problem with my S410 stock clip but maybe I am lucky..:) I did by the RJ Machine $50.00 clips for my .177 and .22 AA air rifles. Love em both.

Thanks Gene.  This will be my first PCP and I'm probably suffering from enthusiasm overdose!

Have you heard anything about the S510?

Gene,

FYI, I just spoke with Craig at SS and asked him about the S510.  He explained that it is a European version of the S410 that is limited to 12 fpe.

We have an AA410 , factory clip not sooo good, never cyled well and the face plate cracked fast,

There was a period a while ago when some of the factory clips has easy to crack plastic.  That was corrected a while ago under warranty, but some weak clips might still be out there.  AFAIK that didn't affect the cycling though.  Be sure you're pulling the bolt completely back to as the full cycle.  Sometimes it the pawl that needs a little adjustment, but it's easy to make things worst so this is best left for someone good with mechanical work and has a spare part handy in case the original snaps.  I haven't had to do this on my A410, it came with complete cycling if I pull the bolt completely back, and it came with two of the RJ machines mags besides the amber plastic factory mag.  AFAIK, the amber is the stronger model that corrects the earlier cracking issue.

Leadbottom, did you buy the AA 410s new?....And it came with 2 machined clips and the original plastic clip....I'm jealous!!!!! Mine only came with the original neon green plastic one.
