Another rain nutter

Woke up this morning to the sound of the phone ringing at 6:00am which was my friend on the other end asking me if I could do something about all the squirrel's destroying his feeder's. I'll be over within the hour I replied and got some java fired up and gathered up my gear. Today's hunting choice would be the RWS34, she's tuned and dead on but as I opened up the front door I noticed that it was drizzling rain. I had her in my softcase warm and dry but hurried to my rig and was on my way. On arriving to his spread I noticed three nutter's in his yard with one on the feeder helping himself to the seed. I spent a moment talking with him about his nutter problem and he explained that they came out of nowhere this past week. In one day he counted ten around his feeder's hanging in the tree's boarding the wood's. It must be headed for fall and their stocking up I told him and I will do the best that I can to help hehehe. I pulled out the 34, loaded a Predator and with a towel wrapped around her I headed for the wood's which didn't seemed to bother the squirrel's at all as I worked my way to the edge of the tree's thirty yard's down from them. In the cover of the tree's I removed the towel and kneeled down for a spell to let them get comfortable with my presence and scanning the tree's I noticed movement all around, this place is swarming with them and you gotta love it.:) I again focused on the trouble maker's swinging off the feeder's and slowly peeked out from behind a tree, still there and filling his cheek's. Still kneeling I raised up the 34 and with a quick scope adjustment placed the crosshair's on a clear target. He stopped for a moment and looked my direction but me being in full camo he couldn't pinpoint me just that there was something out there. Back to filling his cheek's so I popped the safety off and sent him a lead lunch. The solid impact clears him off the feeder and the wood's go from squirrel city to a ghostown in second's, knew that was coming so I loaded another just in case and headed for my harvest which was on his last twitch as I arrived. I think my buddy get's a kick out of watching this little hunting show from his window hehehe, he shot out of his door and yelled "YOU GOT EM"! which I replied "I'm just getting started".;) We inspected the clean hole in his fusebox and decided to get a measurement and stepped off from where the nutter dropped to where I took the shot from. He came up with twenty seven which worked for me so I grabbed the cam and got a pic for the GTA hunter's. He had never had squirrel but wanted to try it so I cleaned it and told him how to cook it up right and with that it really started to rain so I loaded up and asked him if he needed me back to do some selective harvesting, YES! cause I'm tired of buying seed for em and fixin the feeder's, good enough I replied and headed home knowing that I will need to be setup early in the wood's to harvest several in a day in squirrel city. Ed

Another Great Story Ed!!! How are we going to prepare this one?!?! I decide to start making space in the freezer for this seasons harvest, and got 3 BT's thawing in the sink for tonights entree, and my last deer loin's in the fridge for a slow thaw. Think I'll stuff it with spinach and bacon for tommorow evennings meal!!!! Dang, I'm getting hungry!!!! Thomas

Hey Ed, ever tried cooking BT's in a smoker with low heat,...225-250 degrees? I few weeks ago, I tried smoking a briscitt for the first time. I also threw in some deer ribs to see how they'd turn out. All together, they cooked for close to 7 1/2 to 8 hours,.......ok, about a 12 pack of beers, LOL's.  The briscitt turned out ok, but the ribs were excelent. I thought they'd probably dry out, but I wrapped in foil after an hour or so, and they were out of this world. I blended hickory and mesquite chunks this time.The last hour I started dabbing the BBQ sause to them.  Apple and pecan wood works good too. Oak is a good substitute when nothing else can be found, but doesn't have the nutty or fruity flavor, and seems milder than hickory. I'm telling you, we need a Recipe Gate !!!!!! Thiomas
PS I make my own BBQ sauce too,...much better than the crap at the grocery store! HeHeHe tjk

Way to go buddy. So you are the the neightborhood exterminator now..hehe. That 34 sure smacked him one with a bit of your shooting talent. That was a great account of the past tense nutter..:) I love reading your shooting experiences buddy. And Jeff as well. You two are great hunters. Also it looks like you and Jeff have some competition as well. I see Tim has baged a couple as of late as well. Tomas you are gonna have to bring some of dat bbq sauce to the next shootout..:)

Another excellent hunt and pic buddy,,,,, way to go  !!  I love the coloration on those nutters, alot prettier than the drab grey ones around here.  

As for Tim,,,, you are correct Gene,,, Tim has been posting impressive hunting stories,,,, I'm always excited when I log on and see that Tim has posted another hunt  :)

Thank's Jeff we do have gray squirrel and black squirrel here but I've yet to see the gray fella's and only a dozen or so black squirrel's. The black squirrel is more populated up north and I'm still looking for a gray, the fox squirrel are everywhere right now. Ed

As usual, GREAT story,, GREAT pic. & some mighty fine shooting Buddy!! For shure, I have also noticed the beutifull coloration of your Squirrels. Maybe someday you should just eat Mc Donalds & get one of those nutters mounted!!He He!! I always look forward to your posts Ed,, Im SO GLAD your feeling better!!  Gene,,, Im no competition to Ed & Jeff,, those 2 are AWSOME hunters!! Besides,, many of my recent kills were with me wearing my "camo" bath robe, & camo slippers!!LOL!! (Whats that tell ya??) He He He!!!!! Course Harry & I tend to use some of the same "Urban Tactics" LOL!! Then again,, my Doe tags are good starting Sept 15,, maybe my new Dragon Slayer can put me back in the running, based on the "poundage rule"??? Course like Ed & Jeff,, I will be wearing more traditional full camo & acually be in the woods!!LOL!! Man I cant wait to post my first Deer with the Dragon,, its gonna happen,, PROMISE!!
