« on: September 09, 2008, 08:03:57 PM »
Hi guys ...Was just looking on the Hatsan web site.
They have a few new models by the look of it.
A .22 PCP "AT44" I could be interested in it but have
heard they have a quilty issue I have never seen a hatsan
other than in pics. WHAT ARE THEY LIKE?
And a nice springer .22 underleave rated at 1000fps !!!

They can be very rough right out of the box, I just finished work on one that wasn't to bad, just needed som TLC to get it shooting better. Lots of twang and rough cocking to start with but can be made to heel if needed, just alot of elbow grease needed. The firing cycle is hard due in part to the power generated, the top hat must weigh in at around 6 oz. at least, never seen one that big, just a bit of a learning curve when shooting them.

Good to know, thanks. I have a shop near my place that sells the 125 Hatsan in camo. I've also read that it was a very powerful shooter.....but harsh. Maybe if someone who knows how to tune airguns can tame it down....but not me, I'm not much of a tinkerer.

Mine is much better now, but you should not have to put this much work into a $260 gun out of the box. Also it is still relatively new and I am concerned about the plastic stock. No problems yet.
I think it is a good design with poor workmanship and some cheap materials. The Torpedo looked interesting, but after my "fantastic voyage" through the 125, I would not be interested in another Hatsan product. I will just try to make the best of this one.

Hey - from a new member to GTA - my experience with both the Hatsan manufactured Powerline and Walther Falcon Hunter (a friend owns it) is that they are beasts (to reflect one of the reviews - they are both very good and very bad).

I've found that the design of the rifle is causing the sythetic stock to crack.

I've got about 500 shots on my Powerline .177 (1st Airgun at $100), and the synth stock at the front screws has cracked.  Can only guess that the kickback and vibration are doing a major number on the stock.  If anyone has ideas on all wood replacement stock - I'm all ears.  As a hunter the Powerline has been a good little rifle for me.  Especially now - the Powerline is worth the money - esp as you can get them on sale for $69 during the 08 Holidays (see Bass Pro, etc).

Paying $260 for the .22 WFH though?  I would not pay that much until Hatsan improves 1) the qaulity of the trigger (move to two stage), 2) stronger stock (either wood or beefed up synthetic), and 3) vibration.  If I could get all three of those with a scope - I'd happily pay $260 for a 22 Hatsan.

As a side note - GTA is a GREAT FORUM.  What a resource on Air Rifles and hunting with them!  Keep up the great work guys.

Be sure to get out and get some squirrel or rabbit over the holidays!
George

Gene and I have discussed the Hatsan guns at length and have even worked on them together. Hopefully Gene will jump in here and give you his opinion. 8)  I sure have mine and for what it is worth, I would never invest in a Hatsan or any springer made in Turkey. The internals in them are in my opinion about as bad as it can get and don't equal most of the Chinese made guns. They have bought up the rights on a few guns that were well known and really good guns and turned them into a very inferior products. Again, ask Gene as he has first hand experience. :0

As with any other springer though, given enough time and effort they can be made to shoot "reasonably" well but don't be disappointed in the results. After working on a few it didn't take me long to decide that I wouldn't work on them any longer. That said though, every once in awhile someone seems to get a good one but I've never seen one nor has Gene. Maybe my expectations are to high for the money spent.

Can't make generalized statements about an air rifle line based on 1 or 2 anecdotal
stories of some people. Just like Crosmans, Daisy, and the Chinese stuff out there,
there are good apples and bad apples.

Your mileage may vary. Just be grateful that the Hatsan line is available to consumers
in New Zealand. They are not available here.

Not all of us can afford $1,000.00 air rifles.

I think it is more than a few anecdotal stories, The good reviews are from new owners who are blown away by the sheer power. Love to hear back from them after a 1000 rounds.

When I go through my sub-$150 Chinese rifles I find more attention to detail, finish, and basic respect for the customer. The WFH is a decent shooter now (still with a better but lousy trigger), after what I would consider an unreasonable amount of work for the price point. There are a lot of them for sale used.

I will keep mine, but for another 80-100 fps or so over a much cheaperAR1000 or the B28, I question their value. And in US dollars. the RWS48 or 350 are well under $500. YMMV.

I bought my WFH .25 for the sheer power alone and hoped that I could learn to shoot it decently. I don't have any paper to show, but I sure can hit those ground squirrels out at 50~100yrds. It fullfils its purpose. A smooth shooter it is not. However, with some work, many have said that it can be smoothed a little. I choose to keep mine stock for now. I have shimmed the breech seal andexpanded the skirts on the pellets that I shoot (Rhinos). Those two things brought up the velocity and consistency. I love my WFH and don't consider it junk. It is the most powerful springer I own. The most accurate? No.

If you buy one better be prepared to keep it until death do you part.  The resale market for these is pretty dismal.  Judging from that, alone, and not testimonials by disappointed owners, I would steer clear of them.  I did have a Kral clone of a Gamo CFX which was as nicely made as the original.  But that came from Kral and not Hatsan.  Too bad they didn't chose them for the outsourcing.

Good, Bad, Junk? If it sold for $50 I think everyone would think they were GREAT. I think B3s are junk at any price, evryone else thinks they are great. Back on topic I would not pay the price for a "TURKEY" gun when I can buy a used RWS, or Beeman for the same price
