Keep us updated on how it goes.  I think you will be really happy with the talon.  It obviously sounds louder to the person shooting it, but when someone else shoots it you can hear how quiet it is, and it is VERY quiet.  Hope the deal goes well with you, I know what you mean about sending that much money to someone that you don't know as I have done that before too, but fortunately it worked out for me.  Can't wait to see your results.

I too liked the tactical look of the condor, I knew the AA guns were nice, but I wanted a rifle with lots of power that looked "cool" and the condor was that rifle.

EDIT:  you can also get a .25 caliber barrel for it down the road if you want the extra power, and a hammer slap mod to make it virtually silent.

Good luck,
Larry

Glad to hear it worked out, Dan.  Considering all that's in the package, it sounds like a great deal.  I gotta admit, the "Black Rifle" look helped suck me in, too, and I still like it.  I just like the AA and FX better now :-).  I've shot a TalonTunes Condor with shroud before, it's pretty amazing.  Looks like you're going to be in the 30 fpe range with the 18" barrel, might be even better with Kodiaks.  Which is just about perfect IMO.  BTW, pumping gets REAL old, REAL fast :-).  Had to pump my guns in Texas last weekend, really made me appreciate my nitrogen tank.  I now KNOW that if I had to fill with a pump, I'd probably go back to springers, I'd damn sure shoot a LOT less.  So if you intend to shoot a lot, you might want to consider a setup similar to mine.

One other thing, you'll definitely want a better scope, a 4X on a PCP is ridiculous.  If you've busted the budget, consider one of the 4-16 Center Points from Wally World.  My brother has one on his Talon, which he got from me.  If you've got enough for some nicer glass, I highly recommend the Bushnell Legend 5-15x40.  About $100 more than the CP, and worth every penny, IMO.  Maybe we can get together once it arrives.  Later.

Hi Dave, the gentleman with the talon called me on the phone today to let me know that my check had arrived and he was going to send me a confirmation number for the shipping. Just cant wait! He has the scuba adapter for it that he is throwing in as well. I have a buddy that dives every once in a blue moon. So I am going to check with him and see what he has for tanks laying around. What size tank should I get? 88 cu-ft up to 4500 psi?

I have a new Wally World CenterPoint still in the package waiting for a girl to ride on. If I start stretching the range of the CP I will keep the legend in mind. I will post my own pics when she arrives. Thanks again.

P.S. What pellets did your Talons like?

Larry she has had the hammer mod. so time will tell how quiet she is.

Pellets and Talons are easy, seems just about every AF rifle made likes Kodiaks.  JSB's and Crosman Premiers are also popular.  My favorites were Kodiaks and Eun Jins, either caliber, the lighter weight pellets never worked well for me.  How are you fixed for .22 pellets?  I got rid of all my .22 rifles, but I still have some Kodiaks and Eun Jins, maybe some others.  I'd be more than happy to send you some to try before you buy a bunch, PM or email me you address.

Regarding tanks, I think most scuba tanks are only 3000 psi, maybe 3300.  And I think the standard size is something like 80 cu. ft.  If you can get a 4500 psi tank, you'll get LOTS more fills, but you might have trouble finding a place to fill to 4500 psi.  I know finding a dive shop for a standard tank won't be a problem in B'ham :-).  You might have a hassle getting a tank filled if you're not a certified scuba diver, maybe this will help: http://www.airhog.com/pdf/waiver.pdf  Might want to do some calling around while you're waiting for the Talon to arrive.  Or you can try to do what I did, find a source for one of the big industrial nitrogen cylinders.  Considering that you've probably got several dive shops close by, it may not be the most economical choice, but it's still worth checking, especially if the majority of your shooting is going to be close to home.  If you expect to be traveling a lot, get a smaller tank.  If you want or need more details, email me direct.

If it's a 4-16, that CP should be fine.  I just like the Bushnell better, to my eyes it's a sharper scope.  Let me know if I can help with anything else.  Later.

My Talon has landed!
« Reply #22 on: October 22, 2008, 02:40:02 PM »
It arrived yesterday, but I have been too busy  with work and kids activities to play with it much. Everything looks great. I took a couple of pics of the packaging. I will have some time after work tomorrow to take more photos and put them up for all to see. I did manage to put 7 pellets through it on full power just to see what it was like. It is amazing how quiet this gun is. It sounds like a person shooting a spit wad.

I promise to post a few pics after I get it put together.

The gun is quiet, isn't it? I knew you would love the quietness of it, as long as pellets are kept subsonic it is extremely quiet, even when they do go supersonic, they are not as loud as normal.  Looking forward to seeing your accuracy tests and stuff.  Here is mine, at 55 yards with a steady 15mph wind blowing left to right, that is why 3 are grouped to the right, because of the wind.  When it let up they shot a little farther left.  Notice the consistency in elevation, only difference is L to R spread, caused mainly by the wind.

That is a nice group for 55 yards in the wind! I wont do any serious testing until I get a tri-rail for it, and some pellets(predators, kodiaks) I need to get the scope up a little more. My fat head gets in the way. I am still amazed at the lack of sound when the trigger is squeezed. Need a chrony to verify the power. So sweet, I cant wait to shoot it.

I told you it was quiet!  It is deadly quiet, birds won't even know you are there till they see their comrades dropping... Same for squirrels.  Have fun, I think you will enjoy it!
