Blast and Cast
« on: October 07, 2008, 12:38:24 PM »
Ok i was just going outside to shoot some paper.. WELL mr. furry squirrel jumps from my tree onto the power lines and heads for a deserted end of the wire. knowing that there was nothing for the pellet to end up hitting i decided i would just take a pop shot at him and not really thinkin i could hit him at that range...  Ok dumb move I know but he was stealing the pecans again...  I thru the wisper up and lined him up,  he was on the move and i just led him a bit..
Phaat!! i let the benjamin discovery pellet go and to my suprise he was blown off the wire and died in mid air, since he didn't even move from his landing spot, which happened to be in the cati corner neighbours yard...  Oh crapp now I've done it!!! Here is a dead squirrel with a bullit hole in him just laying there in his yard.. DEAD...  Think quick Randall....  After a moment of clarity came upon me i ran in the house and got my 7' casting rod and quickly tied a top water lure on it with 3 trebble hooks.  A headon super spook!!! lol...  I ran out the back door and grabbed my 6' ladder and stood it in the corner of my yard.. Carefully trying to keep from getting snagged in the trees I spied over the 7' cedar fence.. Yep there he was dead as a roadkill on the far side of mr. ?????? 's yard..  It was a long shot but being a prolofic fisher dude i took  a shot at him with a smooth steady aimed cast.  Well the first couple were off but the 3 cast was just beyond him...  I worked that lure like I was going for a trophy trout..  Wow snagged him in the back of the head and it looked like he was running across the yard as i was reelin him in.. only lost him once.. but a re-cast re-snagged him and i got him over the fence.. All the while looking around for someone that may be laughing thier asss off at me...
  No pics,  just a story...

Now  THAT is a huntin story  !!!!  :)

You should have that one mounted.  Underneath the the squirrel on the plaque one one side  you could attach a pellet like the one that killed him and on the other side you could attach the lure that retrieved him  :)

I had an O CRAP moment like that once, except it wasn't a pellet but an arrow half way thru a run away squirrel. I got him but was sure scared someone was going to see me chasing that thing around.

Sound's like your ready for the BASS now, The story's you could tell. Funny stuff.

Haha. I found myself in the dead bird in the nieghbors yard situation a few times. I came up with a great solution. I trained my dog to fetch dead birds. Now I have some what of a lame gun dog. haha. When said target falls in anothers yard I send the dog to go get it. Works like a charm and no one suspects my little spaniel of anything.

What a great story!  I wish I could have been there to see that.  Should we get a  squirrel fishing forum on here?  LOL.

Git em any way  you can!

You, sir, are quite resourceful.

Do you you have the Excalibur hooks on that Super Spook? That is one of my favorite lures and it is that time of year when the wipers start hitting them. Good fun!

Weed Puller....
« Reply #9 on: October 08, 2008, 07:54:58 AM »
That was a good one Jonny Quest. I had an almost similar story...only mine grackle fell about 4 feet beyond the fence into the neigbour's yard. I had to use one of the step-on-it type of weed puller to snag it and pull it into my side of the fence.
