Suburban Backyard Shooting Bench w/ Umbrella
« on: January 24, 2009, 06:29:06 AM »
Sometimes, you gotta do what you gotta do.  Another quick trip to Lowes this morning for an umbrella, stand, U-bolt and some padding material for the top and seat of the new back yard shooting bench.  It may be redneck for an upscale neighborhood, but at least it is upscale redneck decor.

Hey Gene:  I did get to shoot the HW 50 and it shoots very nice.  More on that later.

Wow, if my neighbors saw me pointing and shooting an airgun in the general directions of their backyard, it would look like that ending sceen from Christmas Vacation, cops everywhere!! Must have some very forgiving neighbors, and some pretty unfailing faith that nothing will go awry. As it is, I am blessed with a nice gentle slope out 75 yards from my deck, and a nice steep 40 foot high hill at that point, making a perfect, natural, backstop that to date, none of my neighbors have voiced concern with (guy on my right most likely never will, he is an archer and has his deer targets back there too!) Course, compared to that neighborhood, I'm slummin it in my land of splits, ranches and colonials :-)

I came into this world with nothing, and I still have most of it left!

You should have called and come by!.  I have some rifles to swap around with you anyhow.  And thanks -- the bench worked out pretty well.  I think I am going to get some flat paving stones and make a spot to set it up perfectly level and rock solid.  And yes, maybe add a beer holder, too.

That's a great little set up. I need something like that. I can't believe the neighbors don't have anything to say. I also noticed the Red's Rye, you have good taste, I can't believe it made it all the way down to SC.

I shoot off a bench, pay attention to safety, and shoot my quiet mid power springers or PCP with the power turned down.  I only click the safety off when I am on target.  To my knowledge, I have never sent a flyer down range that hit anything but the backstop.  The down range neighbor's back yard is largely wooded and I have his permission, and more importantly, his wife's permission to shoot toward their back yard.  I also always shoot into a duct-seal lined trap which is almost silent.  And I don't invite others to shoot with me.  So I keep it low key.
