That MIGHT be suitable for small birds ONLY, and then you'd better be close.  If it was me, I'd use those just for targets, even on birds, it's questionable if you could make humane kills.  JMO, I'm sure some of the true hunters on the forum will chime in.  Later.

Thats along the lines of a Beeman P1 (5ftlb) or P3/P17 (2.6~2.9ftlb)pistol at 177 caliber. I have those pistols and have successfully shot sparrows, rats, mice, and gophers. I would shoot a Starling too. The problem with this low power is that you gots ta get pretty close...like within 20 yrds with the P1 and within 10~15 yrds with the P3/P17. I use domehead pellets and Predator pellets with great success. And lots of practice to make sure you can accuratly shoot your airgun. The P3/P17 is very easy to master, with the P1 a little more difficult.

Quick, easy, and accurate energy calculation:

FPS * FPS * Pellet weight in grains * 0.00000222 = FPE

Or you could just use this: http://www.airhog.com/convert.htm  I have it saved on my computer and use it a lot, it's easier to find than my calculator :-).  Later.

Yes!  Energy in foot-pounds (FPE).  There are other ways to do it, but this method makes it easy as you use the same operand for the whole equation. (if you want to be even more accurate in your answer, use .000002221, however pellet/bullet weight accuracy plays more into the accuracy)

Good for field use when using say a cell phone to do the calculation.  All you have to remember in your head is the 5 balls and three 2's.  Works for powder burners just as well.
