Question

My new CF-X arrived today!!! Snuck home to put it inside after fed-ex delivory. Their tracking system works great. I can't wait to shoot it. My question is this. Before firing the CF-X for the first time, should I clean the barrel with a cleaning agent and if so what cleaner could you recommend? Or should I just push a dry cleaning rod through like the manual says? Any feedback is appreciated.

you might get its best accuracy sooner, although its still gonna take quite a few shots for the trigger to smooth out and the seal to break in.

But you ain't gonna hurt it either way.

I just ran a swab through a couple of times when I got my CFX, just to make sure there was'nt anything unwanted in there. You never know. Ed

Thanks for the info guys. Will shoot the CFX for the first time today. Waiting for the scope to come in (Leapers 3-12x44).
What do you guys use for cleaning the bore. I am told Hopps #9 is a no-no. Thanks again

For the bore you can pretty much use whatever you want. But you are to never ever ever ever use a firearm oil for any of the seals on the gun. They will eat rubber, just my .02

Thanks 88, I did run a clean wool swab through it today before shooting it for the first time,.... man the crap that came out surprised me. Ran two more clean patches through and it seemed ok. Thanks for the post. But the new rifle came with a problem   . I will post a new thread about it.

I would agree with Ed, Just run a dry swab through the barrel a couple times and that is all. Remember that you should not clean your barrel very often. If you do, do not use anything  stronger than Goo Gone. When you shoot your CFX hundreds of times, you are going to notice FPS increase. Part of the FPS increase is from lead sealing the barrel. If you super clean your barrel then you will loose a bit of FPS and some accuracy. Some may disagree and some may agree..

I hardly ever have thoroughly cleaned any of my air gun barrels. And see no need to until there is an accuracy problem maybe after a few thousand  shots or so..

Gene is right, you don't need to clean the bore very often. I don't know about using anything that you want to clean the bore though. Unless it going to be stored for a long period of time, never use anything petroleum based in it and if you do, be sure to run a couple of patches through it before shooting it again. The best thing to clean the bore with is either Simple Green or GooGone on patches...but not often. Never use a firearms bore cleaner (or metallic bore brushes). Most are acid based and not good for the softer metal bores of Airguns.

When your patters start to resemble shotgun patterns, then it's time to clean the barrel and only the barrel. Birchwood Casey's Gun Scrubber is great. Just spray down the barrel with plastic nozzle and let dry. Shoot a few pellets to lubricate the barrel and tighten the group back up....

Just run a couple swabs through the barrel, like Ed said.. Never use brass brush's.. Shoot it until your groups start to scatter and then just run a swab with Go Gone on it through barrel a couple times.. Never over clean your barrel. You do not need expensive chemicals on air gun barrels. You probably won't have to run another swab through it for at least 3000 pellets.

Thanks for the advice guys. I did run a patch through my new CFX with Goo Gone then a couple of dry patches until clean. The stuff works great. I have shot around 300 pellets through the CFX so far. I'm hoping to shoot alot this weekend to get it broken in. So far it seems to be getting more accurate as time goes on. Waiting for a shipment of different pellets (on back order Pyramid Air) to see which pellet my CFX likes the best. I will report my findings when all is said and done.
