What scope setup on your B3?
« on: May 28, 2009, 10:22:07 PM »
Since the B3 is an underlever, there isn't alot of room to put a full sized scope.  SO, what do you have as far as rings, mount and scope, and does it cause a problem?

I just redid a B-3 I picked up in the flea market. it has been lube tuned with a light chamber hone, and I've redone the stock but as you will see it has a 2 to 6 power scope at 30 mm dia optics and lets you have loads of room for your fingers to load the pellets . see the pics howie

All 3 of my B-3's are sporting simple short 4x scopes  mounted with Accushot medium rings and the setup works well for me.   I can hit a can, target or critter with problem out to 35 yards and get the job done  :)

Howie, what scope and muzzle brake is that?  Long island, how long are your scopes?  I worry about blocking the loading port.

the 4x scopes I used were the "el cheapo" Gamo 4 x 32  scope and the BSA 4 x32 scope (which is really a nice scope for the money).  I would say both scope are around 9 inches or a little less is length and they leave me plenty of room for loading....... I don't really find I need anything bigger than a 4x on my B-3's......  I primarily use them in the yard to dispatch pests and target shoot and the 4x32 scopes are all I need, besides, I just couldn't bring myself to put an expensive scope on a $29 dollar shooter  :)  and I didn't have to anyway as all 3 of my B-3's shoot beautiful groups with their cheapo scopes......  :)

i second that, longislandhunter. I got the b3-1  and i mounted the scope that came with my old gamo shadow (that one got a 3-9x40 because it needed one...) and i take soda cans down without hold over at 40 yards. at 50 i have to aim with the thick of the bottom reticle post. the 4x32 is absolutely perfect for it. and it ends right about where the loading port begins (i just dont think the rail is very solid, IMHO). you can buy them at sports authority for 29.99, or just upgrade and use a 6x32 leapers compact. it should not give you any problems, and has a mil dot.

I've been looking for a longer scope so that i can use one of the accushot or the ebay one piece rails.  Would like to get up to 7 or 9 power so that dad and grandma can shoot if they need to.

i would recommend against getting such high magnification.reason been that subconsciusly due to the size of the target on the eyepiece we tend to underestimate the distance of the target and overestimate the capabilities of the rifle. I scoped an R7 with a 3-9x40 and found it very frustrating that the shots were falling at 45 yrd+. the fact that i could amplify the image lead me to believe that the r7 could have shot that far in spite of pellet drop. The r7 (comparable speed than the b3...) is a good straight shooter to 30/35 yards. after that, you must compensate for pellet drop. I actually went with a peep sight, and voila! if i can see it, the rifle can touch it!. That 3-9x40 went to my sheridan c9, which can push those .20 at 755 fps on 10 pumps... (also got another one on the R9... 786 fps with .20... , and another 3-10x44 on a S200... 850 fps with 7.9gr .177 cpl... see a pattern?). the 4x32 or 6x32 are perfect scopes for that application... my .02...

I am curious, has anyone tried the Leapers Accushot 1-Pc Bi-directional Offset Mount? I was thinking of picking one up from pyramid along with a leapers 3-9X32 full size scope.  Seems like it would work well on the B3 as I noticed you have to be careful with the one piece mounts, they are kind of long as the rail is less than 10cm, but the offset mount is shorter.  Would even have room for a stop or level.  (I think mounting rail on B3, at least my B3-3, is just shy of 10cm which is the length of most of the other one piece mounts.)  Check the leapers website for the exact dimensions, their catalog has some nice diagrams.

pyro, let me know how the rail goes for you.  Been looking it, but without the gun, I don't know if it will fit.

I took measurements, and based on the specs given by leapers it should fit.  How well it works, I don't know.

Here is my B3´s scope history.

4x32:

2-6x28:

4-12x40 (and my top secret tactical accessories):

To my taste 6x is minimum. Croshairs in first two are too thick, hard to sight to small targets. With 4-12x (etched mildot) it is possible to sight to .177 bullet hole at 25 meters. Parallax adjustment is almost must to me, because my shooting distances varies from 10 m to 100 m. Loading is not a joy with the last one. Offset mount in my mind.

And here is how it shoots. Three five shot groups at 25 meters. JSB Exact Heavy.

I mounted a Leapers 3x9 airgun scope with AO and I believe I used some high mounts. It works okay.I can get to the breech to load fairly well.I mounted the scope as far to the rear as possible. It's another case of the scope costing more than the gun of course. My B3 seems to like RWS Hobbys and Crosman Premier wadcutters and hollow points so far. This scope helps, and I like the gun/scope setup, though it isn't near my most accurate gun.3/8" groups at ten yards-but only with a few select pellets it likes.
