Well, I might have been a little noise sensitive at the time I tried it -- I hadn't really had a 'real' air rifle before that and compared with a Hammerli 490, which was like half the power. My wife tells me the TF89 I have is a bit noisy, but it seems pretty quiet to me. If it isn't louder than a metal trap, certainly isn't too loud for me.

Thanks for the suggestion! Maybe I'll thin out the old plinkers and get 2 new rifles. There was another thread here about air-gun sickness...I'm not getting sick, am I?!  ;-)

I am new to GTA and forums in general, so I hope I don't mess up this post...

Anyway, I just wanted to voice my opinion about the b28 (BAM 28, XS-28, B-28, others?? -- too many variables).

I just purchased it from cobra (I didn't know about MM at the time--not until finding this forum--I may have it tuned by MM at a later date), and even though it does not have a tune, it is amazing---especially for the price.

Out of the box, it was clean and the stock was beautiful.  This was a wonderful surprise because I was expecting some flaws.  To qualify, I have only had an old Benji-S underlever, a few different Gamo .177's, a Ruger Air Hawk and a couple other 'inexpensive' models over the last 2+ years.

After a barrel clean, I only had a couple of smokers and then it was time to sight in with the stock sights...in less than 10 shots I was able to hit a pop can at 20 yards on every shot.  It did take a few more shots to settle in to 2"+ group, and that is more my shooting ability than the rifle...I have never fired a magnum before.

I will say that even though it is a heavy gun, and I will require a lot of practice to be any good at hunting with this much power, it is a smooth gun!

I hope to get another chrony and I have ordered a bunch of different pellets so I can post some numbers for the group, and maybe I get a couple thousand shots thru it over the next month or two.

Anyway, I thought I'd add my initial two cents worth.

Thanks, Ed.

I think the B28 is still my backup if the TF87 doesn't come in at the specs I expect. But if the B28 is really like the AR1000, and the TF89 is like the AR1000, then, um, a B28 might be redundant. I'll cross that bridge if I come to it. The AR2000 seems like the grip of the B26-2 with B28 power...a combination I find interesting. I appreciate the followup!

Hello, Gentlemen.  I have three of the guns listed- the B-28, Walther Talon Mag, and the TF-89 all in .22.  As far as power goes, the Walther is a monster. I just completed a tune with an Apex seal on my gas rammed Talon, and I must say it is a keeper. She is smoother shooting than the B-28, and more powerful. My MM B-28 is very ......uhh....bouncy I guess would be the word, while the Talon is very sharp. The 89 lacks the power of the other two, but I still believe it is one of the best airguns to be had for the money. My 89 has plenty of power, and is very smooth after my tune.  If I can be of any assistance with these models, just ask.

do you do tuning? I must admit the power of the Walther is what drew me to it...I still think the Benjamin Sheridan Super Streak might be interesting...but I can see getting two guns this summer...Let me know about the tuning.

Unless I'm badly mistaken, the B28 is a copy of the RWS 350. I know it's not a AR1000 gun. I have a Hammerli Titan which is another AR1000 gun and is a nice rifle it's self. But I'm like you - the new AR2000 is an intriguing prospect. If I had the money it would be the next rifle I bought.

From everything I could find out about the B28 before purchasing it, it is not only a copy of the RWS 350-- the same company makes some (all??) of the parts for the RWS...therefore the B28 build should have a lot of the same quality aspects as the 350.

With that said, since the 28 is sold cheaper, some of the parts must not be up to the exact specs that RWS would have their 350.

But I also had the Ruger Air Hawk and I felt it was sad that Ruger put their name on a cheaply made product...lousy made stock (and I looked at approx. 10 to find a good one), smelly rubber butt piece, and it took a LOT of shots to get it to smooth out a LITTLE bit for accuracy.

I actually thought the few Gamos I have owned were put together better than the Ruger.

Again, take it for what it is worth.

Ed

I do my own tuning. Nothing commercial by any means, but I may be able to help with questions about the inside of these guns or getting them apart.

Walther Talon Magnum w/gas ram .22

I'm pretty sure at this point that it will be, unless it comes in a lot more expensive than I think or with different specs. With purchase and tune probably under $400 and then a tune for my TF89, I think I'll be all set for a while...

Thanks for all the input!

Well a number of good guns has already been mentioned here. ... Today I took my brand new Crosman Quest 800x for it's first test drive, - probably put about 70-80 pellets through it, at about 35 feet. Now keep in mind this is with the factory scope, not gonna be on it much longer, and the factory trigger too.  In spite of those two handicaps, scope & trigger, once it was sighted-in, - great, no complaints. I have a GRT-III trigger on order and it should be here tomorrow, that alone will be an improvement. I just scavenged a scope from another gun so that problem's been taken care of. This thing has some decent "punch" to it too. The gun was $115.00 + shipping - for the money involved, absolutely no complaints, a keeper.

Forgive me for 'jacking the thread, but there have been a few references in this post to AR1000 and AR2000 rifles...I've seen the Shanghai site and the guns, but who actually sells these here in the "states"?

I guess so...in looking at the Shanghai site, the Ar1000 and TF89 look identical....so what about the newer AR2000 jet and the AR3000? The 3000 looks a lot like the Gamo CFX (to me...) and the TF(97?)   .....no distributors here? The AR2000 looks a lot like one of the BAM or Xisco thumbhole versions....
