Marauder stock
« on: September 25, 2009, 05:24:49 AM »
After seeing someone else redo there Marauder stock I decided to take a try at redoing mine myself too. I first took the stock off of the gun and got my belt and orbital sanders out and 50-600 grit sand paper. I took the belt sander and the 50 grit paper to knock down the cheek pad on the right side of the stock and undercut the comb and get the rough shape I wanted.
I also flattened down the left side of the grip as I only wanted the swelled palm on the right. Then I took my orbital sander to smooth everything out and make the stock comb a roll over like the stock on my AA410. Then I hand sanded the stock up to 600 grit paper before starting to apply Tru-oil stock finish. After each coat I waited 2 hours before hand rubbing the stock with 0000 steel wool, cleaning it then applying another coat, I have 5 coats total and the stock now looks and feels a lot better to me.

Very, very nice.  Can I send my stock to you?  Just kidding.  Great job you did though.

Thanks for the compliments, the pictures don't do the stock justice as it looks and feels a lot better in person.  It was a lot of work but the stock finish looked cheap to me and mine started to flake off on the edges and I only need a right hand stock. My gun feels lighter and smaller which makes it easier to handle and shoot. I also adjusted the trigger closer to the grip, shortened the first stage, lightened the second stage, added a de-twanger and turned up the power all of which makes this a lot better gun then when I got it.

Thanks, I think I could do a better job on my next stock as you never stop learning. I used a belt sander with 50 grit paper to take down the cheek pad but it would have been easier if I had somone to hold the stock while I sanded it.....lol
