am i mistaken?
« on: October 19, 2009, 08:20:49 AM »
I always thought that magnum springers didn't do well from a rest? That the artillery hold leaning next to something to steady yourself did better. My TF89 .22 LOVES a benchrest with a good snug hold with my firing hand, I mean 1 hole 5 shot groups from 50 yards, I. Always knew the gun was more accurate than I could be, but I could cover a 5 shot group with a quarter most off the time, but from a rest this rifle can be pinpoint accurate, I thought lower powered springers and PCPs loved a benchrest not the magnums, I actually thought it was a fluke but it did it several times in a row

If yours likes a rest, then yours likes a rest! I think there is a general tendency for some of the stronger spring guns not to like being rested, and that is something I've heard about in the TF89..

..But nothing is a hard and fast rule when it comes to springers.

Most springers don't like a bench rest or "hard hold" but if yours does, that's great. Some springers are very hold sensitive.

Hi Shawn, When it comes to springers, I don't think their is set rule of thumb. IMO each and every springer has it's ownfollowing. My TF 89 needs my hand on the forestock if I shoot bench, can not shoot directly on a bag or anything, just my hand, the soft touch..........Bill

I have had great luck shooting my springers from a rest. But that does not mean that all springers shoot well from a bench rest of sorts. I have only had a couple magnums and I would say that the TF-89 was the most accurate from my bench rest. The Gamo Hunter 1250 would not shoot under one inch groups at 30 yards using a rest. Most all my other springers shoot excellent from a my bench rest setup.

Hi Bill, I was really suprised, I have a rest that has a V in it and is adjustable for height, the V is covered in rubber and the rear can be adjusted also, I just rested the barrel in there and put the stock to my shoulder snug not tight, and held the pistol grip snug too not tight and squeezed the trigger, I got the pull set fairly light and it produced the best groups I've ever shot, well you couldn't even call it a group I mean 1 hole, I was amazed,  I'm gonna try my shooting sticks tommorow to see how they do, hopefully they'll do as good

I can't wait to hear how you do with the shooting sticks.. I got a pair with my Centerpoint, figured 'what the heck worth a try' and they really have been! I just wish they were taller; I'm already thinking about finding a taller pair.

No doubt Bill, that's a stong shooting gun, I'm getting ready to send mine to Gene for him to do his magic on, I know mine hits hard, now it'll be smooth too.

lol that's "all you did" sounds like a lot to a simple fellow like me

oh, and I just got back from the post office; your old B28A has an appointment with Timmy and then another with Gene She won't be so long you have to take the buttpad off to fit her in a box anymore hehe..

How're you liking that new Diana 54? Those look like very nice rifles, despite the fact that they must weigh half a gazillion pounds. Though I guess the balance is probably fairly good.

My TF89 is off to Gene next week, for a turbo tune, as good as the gun is now, I can only imagine how good it will be when Gene gets done with it.
