Two PURDY Chunks Of Wood!! :)
« on: October 20, 2009, 01:57:09 PM »
Here are 2 blanks I "hacked" out today out of walnut. Gots me enough wood to cut out 26 more!!!! My trusty old 15 yr old jig saw broke down on me or I would have cut out several more today.Thats ok though,, I had bathroom tile grout to do. I still cant believe how lucky I got that "Matt" gave me more wood than I bought?? He gave me an 11 ft pc of Cherry that has grain figure to die for & a couple other slabs of exotic wood I never heard of?? Sapele????? Utile??? I dont know what the stuff is but he told me it would make nice stocks & I think he is right!!Matt is gonna start setting aside all the highly figured hardwoods for me as the cabinet makers dont want it. Talk about "Win-Win"!!! Im gonna start inletting tommorow with my new drill press/table/fence/cross slide mill clamp & new router bits. Hope to have a pic of Me Marauder action setting in these stocks soon!!Both will have adjustable comb risers & adjustable Morgan butt pads along with contrasting forearm/grip extensions. I dont care if I never build another house again,,, I have found my TRUE CALLING!!!LOL!! Timbo.

Such Pretty Wood Timmy !

I just love that grain !

And by-the-by, who do you order those Morgan adjustable recoil pads from ???? I would like to order one or two myself. One for the HW-30, and the other for the QB-78 :-) I did put a decent recoil pad on my QB, and I like it very much, but the HW-30 could use a spacer and the adjustable pad, as I hold it high on my shoulder, and this changes from shot to shot at times.

Timmy

Try to track down a piece of Birds Eye maple or Burly maple. Those are always eye catching. Zebra wood Or Hawaiian KOA is another killer set. I just don't know how well they would be suited for gun stocks. Ever heard of purple heart?

I know there is a fine line between a hobby and an obcession, to bad I sped over it at about a hundred !!

Wow... That is a nice chunk of wood.  It is going to be beautiful!  In your spare time... why don't you make us a bull-pup conversion for our Marauders?  Make them the size of the EDgun...

Keep up the good work!

I was only 1/16" away from getting the top main tube inletting done when my new drill press decided to "Let Go"?? I was only one more pass away from completing this procedure when the stop on the press let loose. Thank goodness it happened right where I need to inlet for the trigger assy. This drill press will be heading back to Lowes,,, sumthin came loose inside & you can hear it rattling!! I was really ticked off as I have maxed out my line of credit & have all the router bits I need to complete the inletting & had hoped to have a pic tonight of the Marauder action mounted in Me stock blanks?? Thank goodness the stock blank is still ok. Temporary set backs are expected when starting a new buisness,,, I know this. It shure dont make me happy though!! Geezzee!!!! Tim.

Lovely wood you've got there Timmy. You're a lucky fella. In case you don't know yet, Sapele when worked and handled smells like cinnamon. Mmmmmmm.
