Help tearing down Benji pump needed.
« on: October 24, 2009, 04:46:48 PM »
Hi all ,i have taken the Benjamin hand pump partialy apart and so far replaced the small o-ring thats on a spring loaded valve at the bottom of the pump.
The pump is still not working right, there isnt a lot of resistance on the downstroke and takes forever to fill a Disco.
I suspect theres a worn out o-ring in there,i got  the specs  on all the o-rings and its not a problem finding the right replacements.
I want to be able to rebuild my own pumps ( own 2 discos ) since theres not much to do other than o-ring replacement but for the life of me
i cant figure out how to completely dissasemble the damn thing.
Ive taken the base off, the handle and the outer tube but dont know how to take the two brass ''ends'' off the inner tube.
I got the schematic and it doesnt look like they are screwed on ,maybe a press fit? Dont want to use much force to try and pull em off,
besides it would be hard not to scratch or dent that tube they are on.
Anyone here thats has dissasembed the hand pump able to give me a walk through on the take down,i would greatly appreciate and it
might help someone else as well.
Looking forward to any help i can get thanks guys, Jim.

I checked with the Canadian airgun forum and was told by a shop owner that he will no longer sell the Benjamin pump because he can't get a rebuild kit for it. I'm interested in getting rebuild info as well. So far my pump is working fine, but just in case...I'll keep searching.

Ok guys i found out after studying the pictures i had ,that the bottom brass piece is actually screwed to the innermost rod just need to put the other end
on a well padded vice so you can wrench it loose. That was the only sticking point on the pump takedown,i got a complete list of all the orings in the pump
and they are all available through mcmaster-carr.The one ring i replaced a while back is still looking like new and that was just a nitrile one i bought at napa.
I would imagine a nice viton set at 90 hardness would last a long time ,i might just break down and get them all from mcmaster though some come in hundred packs.
Heck that would be a lifetime supply lol.

Good to have another succesfull pump fix, when i first got my two Discos and pumps just a few months ago i didnt know anything about them.
A quick crash course and this forum helped get all the info together so we can repair the darn things.
They are not that complicated afterall, thanks for the oringstore info McMaster has all the rings of course but some come in 100 or 50 packs.
