I have a TF89 and wanted to add a rail to replace the groove for my scope mount. I found the following item:

It is a slight bit too long which I expect to fix by grinding the bottom of the rail front and back.

One silly thing I can't figure, and maybe it is obvious...how the heck do I get it on the grove? The thing might go on with some stiff force, but I'm wondering if I am missing some other obvious solution.

It's a bit of a pain, but not too bad.

Once you have it cut/ground to the length you need, loosen the allen screws on the side so it'll flex open. Then press it down onto the rifle's dovetail. It'll click into place. Once it does, check to make sure both sides are engaged then tighten the allen screws down.

An easy to press it on is with 2 pieces of wood and a C-Clamp or 2. The wood will guard the action and the rail. It'll also help to distribute the force evenly.

But beware... Once you install it, you'll have to almost destroy it to get it off!!!

This is tough to tell from what I'm reading or not reading. Looks like the 89 has an 11mm (3/8") scope groove. The pages I saw when combing the internet didn't specify, but it appears to be that size. The Gamo rail does not specify either, but being an air rifle accessory, I would assume it too is an 11mm or 3/8" groove attachment. The 3 allen head screws loosen to split the rail. Slide it onto the rifle scope groove and just tighten the screws. Should be that simple. Looks like it is very similar to any solid scope base, like came on my Benji SS.

Oh, and another thing.... For me, those Gamo rails are aluminum and have always allowed scopes to slip. The stop pin hole usually gets elongated after a while.

I know you'll have to get a different set of rings, but it's allot easier to work with and the mounts won't slip.

SDale, That seems to confirm what I was thinking...I just didn't want to do it and screw something up if doing it the wrong way. You may be right about something else being an advantage, and I looked at the suggestions -- which seem to be good ones. While I feel I am gaining some good background in a lot of things having to do with air rifles, the finer points of mounts are not really 'lost' on me so much as there seem to be a lot of variables. I've seen that type of rail you suggest in a lot of places, but haven't had my hands on one or obviously used them for mounting. I have a few TF rifles with the groves, so I think I'll have a little experimenting to do. And I absolutely understand what you mean about likely having to destroy it to get it off if this is the only way to get it on!

Yeah, I did try to slide it on, but with no luck...and that's why I posted here. My only other option seemed a pretty stiff press, like SDale suggested. I'll be testing this one on my TF97, and then maybe either getting another or trying out SD's suggestion.

And the other option if you have the tools or access to someone reliable would be to carefully have the receiver drilled and tapped to add a rail.
All depends on how serious youwant to getand if you plan on this being a keeper.
