What is a 'DeTwanger"?
« on: December 28, 2009, 04:35:02 AM »
I have read this mentioned in a few topics here and elsewhere.

What is it?

Does it help dampen the 'ting' noise when firing some PCP rifles? If do, does it have any effect on performance or the life of the rifle?

Ahhh. I think you mean "depinger". There's a ping noisefroma pressure wave inside of the air resevior(or air tube). This is something you dont hear unless you have a Marauder-like airgun, which has a shroud or other device that cuts down on the blast noise coming out of the barrel. On the Marauder, the depinger is installed about halfway into the air tube. Its just basically a short round plug with a hole in the center to let air through, so it doesn't impede airflow. Orings usually encircle the outside diameter of the plug/depinger. The depinger is inserted into the air resevior about halfway into the tube, and the orings grip the inside of the tube. Its function is very simple...to disturb thewaves of pressure inside of the airtube, caused when youdischarge(fire) the airgun. It does not affect the longevity of the airgun at all.

I will now try to find a picture of a depinger, and post it, so you can see how simple the design is.

I need to make one of those for my B50. It has a pretty loud ping. I saw them listed as detwangers and depingers, interchangeably somewhere. But only in one place. Everywhere else I've seen them, they've been listed as depingers.

Does it matter what durometer of oring you use? I have Japanese and US oring sets. Both sets are 70 durometer, Buna-N.

Al, the best way to find that out is to go over to the Yellow Forum and do a search on marauder depinger. Thats where I first read about them, started seeing posts from guys who made them, and then from guys who bought/installed them.
