I need a bargain for Pellgun Oil
« on: January 03, 2010, 06:13:18 AM »
the Bass Pro Shop wants $3.99 for the tube. That seems awfully steep. Can anyone direct me to a cheaper alternative?

In the Phoenix area please.

I've heard alot of folks say that automatic transmission fluid is the same stuff as pellgun oil.
And a quart of auto transmission fluid would be right at $3.99 or a tad more, but would last you FOREVER.

I hope I am not opening a bag of worms by saying this, but I use the same pneumatic tool oil that I use in my nail guns in my pellet guns.  I figure that if it is OK for the seals in my high dollar framing nailer, that it is OK in my air rifle. It costs about the same but the bottle is many times larger.

Same here.  I've been using pneumatic tool oil for a couple of years now and it seem to work just fine.  After a long hiatus I lubed my 25 year old 1377 with it and she shoots like new. Oh, and I like the smell !!!

I bought 30wt none detergent motor oil form Walmart ACCEL brand 2 years ago and have used it on 3 CO2 ag's and so far I still got a looooooooong way before I buy my next one. I haven't tried the tool oil that came with my framing nailer...kinda nailer not shooting as fast as my air guns. :g)

I have a Fast Deer and a TF41 with leather seals and I use a a clear teflon grease for the seals. The Teflon doesn't diesel in these guns.  I only use the pneumatic oil in my multi-pump/CO2 guns.

According to everything I've read you can use motor oil as long as it is non-detergent.

If it's got an O-ring use the non-detergent. Any other will work for sometime until it deteriorate and break down.

Another one might be Mac1 "Secret Sauce."  Very similar to Pellgun Oil but much cheaper.  Dunno current price, you'd have to call.

Tim McMurray is extremely knowledgeable re airguns, has been a smith about all his life, so his website is interesting and a good education.

pelgun oil is Monolec GFS SEA 30wt motor oil made by Lubrication Engineers Inc.It is a pariffin based ND 30wt. motor oil.you can use any ND 30wt motol oil,but the pariffin wax helps wickout moisture while shooting mainly on the CO2 guns, as I have noticed over the years the valve springs on guns that I used it in looked almost new but as for the ones that I did not use it in were rusted. You can also use pure mineral oil which is what ND motor oil is but I will stick with what works best.If you can get the monolec gfs 30wt motor oil it cost about $8 a quart which should last a lifetime.NEVER EVER USE TRANSMISION FLUID IT WILL DESTROY YOUR SEALS!!!!!!!!!!Take a look here if you want the info on pelgun oil. http://www.crosman.com/pdf/msds/MSDS-PELLGUNOIL.pdf

Get some pure silicone oil for the leather seal
« Reply #14 on: January 21, 2010, 01:36:54 PM »
Hobby shops have it for the shocks on R/C cars. I have a spray can from a hardware store. Just be sure it is pure, no oil.
