Welcome.
I've been doing most of my sight in with the Whisper at 15 yards indoors. Late last fall I started trying some pellets out a 30 yards to see how well they'll do. With the wind gust coming around the house it's hard to tell. Shoots great out to 20 where it's more sheltered , but beyond that accuracy goes sideways alot !
Gun was sighted in for the 13.4 gr Jumbo RS. I set out some targets today, but the wind came up as a lake-affect snow squal line came through. I kept shooting anyway, but was getting some very wide "patterns" - I wouldn't even call them groups. I could hardly believe how much a cross wind was affecting them. They were 3- 4 inches wide by about 1 inch high.
Then I remembered I had some 18.2 gr Jumbo heavies. I tried those and they were still getting blow around sideways, but the groups were reduced to less than half the size of what the RS were doing in those gusts.
In the mean time, since the heavies were now sighted in, I wanted to see where they'd hit at 22 yards were the Starlings have been near the feeder. Didn't want to move the target rack closer, so I just aimed at weed stems sticking up out of the snow in the garden next to the feeder. Closer to the shelter of the house they did very well. Most went into the same hole in the snow bending, or cutting off the weed stems.
Then I remembered what we used to do for back yard target pratice as kids. I'd try cutting down one of the thicker plant stems. The pencil is pointing to the third shot - first two plowed a groove in the snow just to the right of the stem at the same level as the hole in the stem. The three dents in the snow to the left are not pellet hits, they are foot prints from a stray cat.
Thought for sure the stem would fall over, but a 22 cal pellet meeting a tough 35 cal stem ....
Anyway, I had a good laugh when I saw that hole open up as I was looking through the scope.
At least at 22 yards the Whisper can be accurate. If I get a calm day I'll try some groups out at 30 yards.
