Am I stupid or what?!?!?! R1's/HW-80's
« on: March 18, 2010, 11:31:43 PM »

OK, don't answer that,....at least not yet. Here's my story. While doteing overmy next new rifle on the PyramydAir web site, I made a somewhat strange observation on the Beemans andWeihrauchs they offer. So,....stick with me on this and see if you know what the heck is going on with these numbers.

Under theWeihrauch section they offer the "Weihrauch HW-80" in .177 cal rated at 968 fps.

Under the Beeman section they offer the standard R1 with iron sights in .177 cal rated at 1000 fps,.....with me sofar??????

Then the Beeman R1 without sights are given with .177 at 1000 fps, .20 at 860 fps, .22 at 765 fps and a lefty .22 the same fps, but $100 more,.....which I think is total BS and prejudiced towardsthe 'south paw' persuation!!!! My little rant,..but anyways,....

The Beeman R1 carbine is offered in .20 caland rated at 860 fps. So these numbers are for the most part pretty consistant.

But Wait!! Allow me to toss the proverbial wrench into the cogs,....Under the Beeman section, the rifles listed as the "Beeman HW-80" are offered in .20 cal rated at 735 fps, while the .22is rated at 804 fps. Am I the only person to notice this "rise and fall" of fps's. Kind of an odd indiscrepancywouldn't you agree?

So back to my original question. Am I stupid or what?!?!?!?!?Can anyone explain this strange phenomenom to me or anyone else that may have caught this?!? LOL's

Don't feel like the Lone Ranger. This happens quite a bit. Someone entering the info juxtaposes it, miss-types, info is bad, etc, etc. I saw on a Straight Shooters review where the heaviest pellet tested in a gun was listed as more than 100 fps faster than any of the lightest ones. No way, Jose. Someone messed up. Besides, the numbers are mostly bogus to begin with.

Regarding prices on left-handed stocks, look at it this way. At least you are getting a gun with a cheek piece on the proper side, not some abomination that's "ambidextrous" and looks like it's wearing saddle bags. I would rather pay a bit more to have it done right.

RedFeather is right they got people who don't know how to read the info correctly! I have an R1 DG in .22cal ave's 760fps w/14.3cphp's my HW80 .20cal ave's 800fps w/11.42 FTT I'm gonna get a an HW80.22cal the 1st of Ap I'll let you know what it shoots if you like? I like you am a southpaw and I like the R series gun due to the ambi stocks but the standard stocks don't bother me, its just a shame we sp's get the broken end of the stick when it comes to gun's! the wazoo effect kicks in when you want to buy a gun suited to us!                                                                                 These are out of the box fps ratings on these gun's of mine!

Well Thomas, I will tell you up front that lefties are abnomalities... A defect in the DNA. Parents took to many "Carter's Little Liver Pills". Use Exlax to often. So there you have it Thomas. Lefties are freaks of nature... LOL And the gun makes should charge more for a left handed stocks. Which is totally wrong...:)

OK, enough of the left and right battle. I just think it was interesting that it hasn't been corrected by PA if in fact it is a typo. Not very condusive for sales.  And I agree with RF and Mark about the velocity claims  the gun makers stamp on them. I'm in the process of collecting up the funds for the purchase of an HW-80 in .20 caliber,.....but as RF said, it's better to save up and get the right equiptment from the get go than to start out with a bass ackward set-up. So now I'm contemplating getting the Beeman R1 with a lefty stock. I'd still like to have iron sights rather than the carbine version and the newer Beemans that only come with a MB. What to do,....decisions, decisions, decisions. I will admit,....after eye-balling the Beeman R-11MKII,.....that could be another route,....if they came in .20. Oh Brother!!    :emoticon: ,tjk

Not a typo
« Reply #10 on: March 19, 2010, 12:15:50 PM »
Beeman has long been known for its "box tunes". Speed sells. Guns sold by Beeman have always been "a bit more powerful" than factory guns once the Beeman name goes on the box.  Dr Beeman knew how to make a sales pitch, and as a result Beeman guns have always been perceived as "better" then non-Beeman guns. Faster, more powerful, therefore more expensive.Of course, as a rule Beeman guns were no different than guns without the Beeman name.

I think It is a typo

I too did notice the "stragne" velocity numbers listed by the HW 80, and that has been going for some time.  I actually noticed it the day the HW80 was back in stock, I thought about calling PA but I did not.  I also noticed similar typo on one of the R-9 models but was corrected.
Beeman R-9 DG 0.22
Beeman R-9 DG 0.20
Beeman R-9 DG 0.177
HW 95 in 0.20
HW 50 in 0.177
RWS 48 in 0.22

No, it is absolutely NOT an error. This is the way the Beeman company  has always marketed their guns. I bought a new Webley Hurricane a while back, it came in a Beeman box. Advertised velocity clearly marked on the box was 500 fps, real world is 425. Not a typo error, not an error by someone who misread something, rather its how Beeman has done business for years. Those numbers are what Beeman claims, not factory numbers.

So is the HW 80 the only air rifle where the 0.22 caliber travels faster than the 0.2 caliber?  I cannot find another example.
Beeman R-9 DG 0.22
Beeman R-9 DG 0.20
Beeman R-9 DG 0.177
HW 95 in 0.20
HW 50 in 0.177
RWS 48 in 0.22

Sam do you mean the .20cal? if so the .22cal in this power plant will not shoot faster than the .20cal in stock form.
