Is PCP worth it?
« on: March 26, 2010, 04:18:12 AM »
I been checking out all the pcp post. And is a pcp worth all the pumping and expense? From what I get you have to do a whole lot of pumping for what 30 - 40 good shots or you buy expensive tanks and connections. At least with a break barrel if you do 100 pumps you get 100  full powered shots. Oh, I have to mention I been checking out the condors. Whats wrong with me? I must be insane! My good judgement says NO to all the pumping or expensive tanks and connections.I have to get my head checked somethings wrong with me.

I had all the same thoughts and questions. But, you only buy the tank and stuff once, and then you have it for all future PCP acquisitions. Like so many other things, I don't remember the pain of the expenditure any more. ButI have a Marauder and a Dragon Slayer, and I am eagerly awaiting the Marauder pistol! Plus Cometa is going to introduce a PCP this year that looked pretty darned cool.

It was worth it to me.

The only thing I don't understand is the people who get out of springers, as aresult of PCP. I guess if you are only a one or two gun kind of guy, fine. For me they are totally different systems, and nothing replaces the simple joy of a springer. I am glad I have both and want more.

Maybe it is just me...But I find pumping to be very easy, and often have to check and make sure I don't over pump.(maybe because my fill pressure is only 2000psi)

I think I got a good pump too, I just pump slow, and don't let it over heat. Put it like this: I like the darkside so much that I have already ordered a Marauder!

Also when I am ready to to go scuba It will be soooooo EASY, I have a lot of scuba shops around me living near the coast. and a nice selection of tanks on craigslist if i choose. But I also talked to JOE about one of his SCBA tank setups, sooo yeah IT IS WORTH EVERY SINGLE PUMP!

Thanks for your input.I really enjoy my springer's alot of fun. But I think I got the pcp bug and I have to get it out of my system even if I just buy one. What do you think of the Condor? Seems to have alot of upgrades and add ons in the future. It's quite versatile.

Condor

I only know the ones I have, or have shot, and the Condor isn't one of them. Noise would be a concern for me, and nothing can beat the Marauder in this area.

The company has a good reputation. I don't know of any downsides, other than the sound. It is priced more reasonably than many.

Personally, I am a Marauder kind of guy, and look forward to the .25 for coyotes.

Well Ray I held out as long as I could but no, the pumping is not worth it..:) I would rather cock my springers than pump to shoot...:) So finally made the decision that instead of buying another new gun the next time, that I would buy a tank and accessories..:)  So there you have it. Been there and done that. And that was no fun..:)

Gene, I get your drift.lol.  I need a tank and not a pump. I thought all that pumping would take the enjoyment out of it. Think I better get a Marauder and a tank setup. I'm getting to old for all that pumping. You got a ballpark figure on what a tank setup would be for a Marauder for air.

Thanks Ray

When I got my marauder I called around to the local scuba shops to see if they were supportive of our plight. I found one that had a great policy, if you buy a scuba tank from them they give you free refills for a year. In a year, if someone hasn't released a decent pump for a decent price, I'll gladly pony up the $7 per refill until they do.

I paid like $149.00 per tank. I bought two 88 cu/ft - 3000 psi tanks and a 40 cu/ft 3000 psi pony tank which I gave to Timmy. The pony tank was about the same price..:).

As far as pumping goes I pumped my first PCP to 1000 PSi
Thought stuff this ...went to the dive shop hired a tank..
Never picked up the pump again..

As far as pumps go....Right as we type..I'm building a pump
that can pump 207cc of air @ 3000psi in ONE "1" stroke
will fill most guns in 2 strokes & top up in 1 stroke..

Power sorce is a 20ton hyd jack with a ram fixed to the top
that has a 53mm bore x 170mm stroke  ..filled to 120 psi from a compresser
giveing a air volume 4.2 letres then compressed 206 times to give 207cc @3000psi.

All the numbers say it will work....Time will tell the truth...

Its not that hard to make..just need a bit of engineering ability
and some gear..
