Your alltime BEST airgun shot?
« on: April 07, 2010, 06:11:11 AM »
Target,Plinking ,Or Hunting?
Mine is a tossup between 2 shots, both of which were taken with my tuned .22 cal ,30FPE gamo hunter extreme

the 1st

a gre squirrel taken at 91 yards nailed him in the ribs and the 2nd shot a skunk at 106 yards also a boiler room shot

I kinda regret selling that gun but it was a must for me to get into pcp's again , I traded for  disco pistol and pump.

I am going to get another Magnum springer again someday, I still watch the classifieds for that gun to pop up though lol.

In my case I prefer challenging targets for an air rifle. My airgun that I still learning about  it air lost power after every shot  at long distance is the Sumatra .22 500 cc.  I use this rifle every friday at the range club since 5 weeks ago.  My shooting target is always located at 100 yards. This it is not a 100 yards constant shooting rifle but that is what I am learning the shooting pattern of this rifle at that distance to compete with other members of the club range that use only real bullets. I am shooting between 400 - 550 eun jin pellets 24.8g and 60-100  32.4g  every friday.  I spend the whole fridays at the range. In addition,  I am the only one at the club rang that use an airgun, but everyone of them have to come to see the Sumatra and ask me the caliber of that beauty and the noise that it perform.

My 100 yards target is a 3 inches diameter.

Jorge I had the experience the last year I was shooting at an public area next to a river with my set up like at a range and someone saw me when I shoot some lights pellets just to listen the crack under a bridge and when suddenly 3 police cars arrives ....

oooohhhh.... but there are not restrictions here just you know a public place it is not the best place ... but I had no problem they just told me where was located the range... he he he.

And now you read my fridays range story.

Man thats tough.

Ive slipt a pellet on a paint spatula at 35 ft and cut a card from that distance. Both on video! Shooting off the weight bench.

Ive hit matches at 25 yards.

But I think my best long range was 60 yards on the beeman steel pig target. Its about 2 in wide by 1.5 in tall. Hit it 3 out of 5 times from a lawn chair.

All with my gamo hunter nitro piston 177. Love that gun.

Dj... It is not easy. I have to compesate the rifle a lot and many times after every shot. As I wrote I am learning the rifle pattern for these long shots. Until know at 70 yards my first 3 shots are in the 1 1/2 target after that I have to start to compensate again and try to follow the new pattern.

In other words in need to continue learning the shooting pattern of the rifle after every shot.   Do this it is not easy, it takes a lot of time and other factors like the wind and the mirage that I have experienced at the range,  but if I can do very close shots with an air rifle.... you will know what I could do with a real bullet.

Take care

Last week I was shooting my .177 silent cat at some extended distances trying to figure out the mil dots.  While shooting at my 70 yd target a sparrow landed 3 yards behind the target on a log.  I put the 4th mildot on his head and let it fly, couldn't believe it but I took out his eye.  Later in the day I was shooting at a buoy in the lake at 122yds.  I finally figured out the hold and was able to hit the 6"x6" exposed buoy several times.

comes to mind. First one with the Cummins b-3,my grandson said that gun can't kill anything,so I showed him a little bit, at about 25 yards a sparrow and just as the trigger broke and released the pellet another sparrow hopped into the line of fire, two fer one and made a beliver out of him.Second one:Disco,.177 cal.same grandson, now a marine,a starling at about 50 yards,he says Gramps you are waisting your time, you are going to miss.1 starling down and a bunch to go.Ha I love to show the young whippersnapper a thing or two.

This sounds like me and my dad. He is retired Marine and I am active duty. He shoots my guns and still wins! ANd the one time we tied he outsmarted me and had me run a timed opstickle course in the back yard shooting as I went. Then after I stepped on a stick barefoot and rolled through the grass whith no shirt on hitting all the targets as I went. Then at the finish line was 5 prone shots. I stood up out of breath asked what the time was and him and my kids are just laughing and he says I just wanted to see you get all chiggery, you win!

Even when I won I lost! lol but theres always next time.

And my hats off to you guys shooting live targets at long distance. SHooting steel and targets is easy because there is no time crunch, the target sits there and waits till your ready. So you can relax breath and concentrate. And I dont know why but I still get excited when Im sliding up to a shooting position weather its after a squirrel or a grackle. Also shooting live targets your very rarely in an ideal shooting position. Good job to all of you.   :emoticon:

I might have the ultimate unrepeatable air-gun shot in history.I have a camp on a river, one day about 2 years ago we at my camp while a buddy was fishing about 50 yards up river.I was talking to another friend about how I was a much better shot than him (typical bustin on each other). He says if your so good hit his bobber from here,I say I'll do one better I'll hit his line. With a chuckle from both I take the shot a second later we here our buddy yell "HEY YOU HIT MY LINE".We both looked at each other and agreed that could never be done again......shot was taken with a Daisy powerline 880 on bb's no less.
