RWS 52 Velocity seems low?
« on: April 10, 2010, 01:16:15 PM »
Hi All,

I purchased a new 52 (.22) a week ago and have put about 750 shots through her. I'm a little concerned at the velocities I'm getting as compared to those observed by others. Not sure if rifle has a problem so I'm asking advice from other 52/48 owners.

RWS Superdomes 730 fps
RWS Super-H-Points 736 fps
Crosman Field Hunting 745 Fps

Try shooting it more. Spring and seal may not be set yet. But those numbers are not bad.  The most important part is how accurate it is. That will come with the barrel seasoning and break in.

Hi Greg, Your velocity is in the ballpark, mine is about the same as yours.

RWS Hobby WC 11.90gr - 830fps

Beeman Silverbear 12.65gr - 807fps

RWS Meisterkugeln WC 14.00gr - 746fps

Crosman Premier HP 14.30gr - 727fps

Crosman Premier Dome 14.30gr - 740fps

JSB Exacts 15.80gr - 729gr

This is all average velocity on a ten shot string, recently replaced new JM VRT kit, OEM Full Power Spring with new seal. IMHO your velocities are good for now but will go up a little if you have under 1500 shots thru your Air Rifle.....Shoot Safe and Enjoy......Bill

Ya Bill is on the money for sure. And the accuracy is very important. I have tuned allot of the RWS 48,52 and 54's and let me reassure you that you have a well made gun.

Another point I would like to make is many new air gunners can be a bit impatient with break in time. Some guns take longer and some less to wear in to peak performance. Patients is a virtue when it come to breaking in a new shooter...:) Take your time....:)

Gene & Bill,

Feel better after talking with you guys. I have read so many post where folks have had seal problems and such that I wanted to make sure the gun was ok, while I was still under the 30 day return policy. Thanks for the advice, I appreciate and respect it!

Greg

Well Greg, the 48, 52 and 54's do not have a problem with seals.. Vary rarely are the seals bad from the factory.

Great! Ok Gene. Thanks for the Info. The rifle is on the heavy side but I find it helps to steady it on the target. So far I love this gun and, it shoots very accurate with little hold sensitivity :)
