34P... smoothing the sharp edges
« on: April 27, 2010, 12:57:00 PM »
Just got one of the Airguns of Arizona 34P combo rifles. Very nice. Sighted it in at 20 yards and proceeded to miss a dozen or more red wing blackbirds on cattail heads and stalks in the slougs in the breeze at 30-60 yards. Did get a nice feel for cocking, loading and how it kicks. Finally got one about 20 yeards away and nailed her. Shot & plop right into the water.

A question about the sharp edges and manufacturing lines on the synthetic stock. Can I use a dremel tool to smooth out the line and take the sharp edge off under the barrel without causing any problems, melting or whatever? The edges could use some smoothing but I don't want to ruin it or melt trying to mooth them a bit.

Thanks in advance. I like the rifle. AofA got the order Friday and I have it today, Arizona to North Dakota. All nice and new and it looks good. Maybe I will have to press my shirts now before going out shooting or get a new hat so I look as spiffy as the rifle & scope combo?

I would not use a dremel or other power tool on a synthetic stock. Id use a peice of 220 or smoother sand paper or even a emery board for fingernails. Dremel could like you said melt the material and cause all kinds of problems. Slow and easy always wins.

ANd congrats on the new rifle! Have fun with her and hope to see some pics.

A couple things I have found now that I am able to look in the box. AofA went over the rifle before shipping and provided a checklist of what was done. Also provided is a 5 shot Chrony printout of test firing by them using Beeman Lazer .177 6.5g pellets. Looks like the average was 915 fps over the 5 shots. The chrony string is attached to an artivle by Jock Elliott on Airgun Maintenance. Looks to be a nice way to deliver a rifle and a nice check on how it fires before sending it out. Glad to see it and no extra charge for the printout or checkout.

I think I will enjoy this rifle. Just couldn't pass up the sale price and will be nice to have an extra .177 rifle for use or loaning.

Just need to smooth out those sharp edges and I'll enjoy it more.

For now just the Crosman Premier Hollow Points. Will shoot a bit to see how they do and get thing broken in a bit. Then will try two or three others to see if one is much better than the other. Main reason for the Crosman Hollow points is that the nearest WalMart has them for just under $6.50 for a tin of 500. So, when I am in the Big City 90 miles away I bought a number of tins of them. The Diana Model 48 in .177 calibre shoots them very well.

I will say the rifle is very nice. Looks good. I am impressed with Airguns of Arizona doing the Chrony string before shipping as part of the purchase. Sure didn't expect that, a pleasant surprise along with the very quick shipping by priority mail.

Now just waiting for a Marauder to arrive and will rest on buying for now... unless someone has a HW90 they are blowing out for $35.00 or so. ;-)

Use a razor blade. Keep it at 90 degrees to the mold parting line a scrape it off. If you keep the blade teetering on the line and scrape little bits at a time, it'll flatten out nicely.
