It is an American classic with adjustable power, i.e., the number of pumps increases the power.  Mine has had the MAC-1 steroid/billet tune.  It shoots about 620 fps with 14.3 gm pellets on 8 pumps.  It is sort of noisy, but if you don't mind pumping, it is a fine gun.  It can be an aggravation to scope because the scope can get in the way of the preferred grip for pumping it up.  There is no simple way to moderate the sound if that is an issue in your backyard.

I was told they can go up to 900 in 22 but that was at 18 pumps I think.

That is probably true.  The steroid mod allows, with quite a few pumps, the attainment of fairly high pressure in the tube.  I just haven't gone beyond 8 pumps because even with the extended billet lever it gets pretty hard to pump.  You might do a search on the steroid benjamin on the green Crosman Forum and see what comes up.  To tell you the truth, I have been afraid to shoot it very much in the back yard because of the loud noise it makes.  It definitely is an attention getter.

The 392 is a pretty decent gun.Easy to work on,rugged, and you can plink on 3-4 pumps without too much noise.Based on the 390 series guns I've seen, the 392's have somewhat oversize bores with shallow rifling,so finding a pellet that get's the most out of the gun can involve some testing.German pellets and jsbs are  good place to start.I've had a couple in the shop that would usualy hit the 1" spinner at 45 yards with a 4X shotgun scope. The 397's are less picky about pellets, the bores are tighter,it seems.
If you think you want power, get the Mac1 billet lever, makes the gun feel twice as solid ,and will last forever.Buy yhe gun, shoot it awhile ,and then have some work done if you like the gun.Pumpers aren't everybodies favorite type.

I love my 392.
Though while I have to confess that it's not my daily shooter, when the SHTF, it's the gun I'll be looking to for putting meat on the table.  8)
