Groundhogs fall to Phantom
« on: June 03, 2007, 01:30:12 AM »
Scored my 4th Groundhog in the last two days with my Phantom and CPHP pellets.  Two adults and two pups.

These varmints constantly dig craters in my yard.  The Phantom drops them in their tracks with head shots at 30-35yds.  I never thought I would even try to shoot a groundhog with a pellet rifle until I got the Phantom.

Probably the best hundred bucks I ever spent in the pest patrol, garden protection area.

       Life is good today :)

Congrats on the kills.  I do alot of ground hog air gun hunting at a farm where I do pest control   I mostly use my .22 cal guns, but have taken quite a few with the .177 as well.

Just wondering what caliber Phantom you have.  I'm seriously thinking of ordering one, just love the way they look and feel, although I haven't actually fired one.

Mine is a 177 Jeff.  I have put many thousands of pellets through it.  Actually, it is on it's 3rd spring and seal.  Rebuild takes less than 1/2 hour and costs less than 10 bucks for the parts.  It is the first "high speed" air rifle that I bought and is the most accurate of the ones I have in that caliber.  If I was going to buy another, I would get the G1 Extreme from Walmart.  Decent scope and mounts come with it and for an additional 30 bucks, you could add Bob's CDT trigger.  About $160 total and your done :)

I will have to try my Quest 22 caliber on the next hog.  Never tried a 22 air rifle on one yet.

I love my centerfires too Bill, but on my 1.5 acre "farm" that would get me a visit from the police very quickly.  It's still hard for me to believe that a groundhog can be killed with a pellet gun, but the higher speed guns with the hard CPHP ammo sure did the trick.  Never thought of taking a picture of the flea bit fur bags, but next time I get one, I will get a pic just for you :)
