New TX200 Mark III walnut review with pictures
« on: September 14, 2007, 08:36:48 AM »
I managed to get some shots in today over the chrony and take some pictures between thundershowers. I bought this rifle to see the difference in my Hunter Carbine and the MarkIII ;which is the winningest springer made; in field target . (Not my words) I love the HC so much, I couldn't imagine something better. The first thing I noticed ( after the beautiful walnut stock and excellent fit and finish) was that the rifle was heavy but not as front heavy to me as others have said. The gun naked weighs in at 9lbs 8oz. This is going to be a target gun, not a carry around all day and shoot squirrels, although with a sling , it wouldn't be that bad. I had shot a little over 125 shots through her yesterday and last night. My first shot through the chrony today went 910.1fps with JSB 8.4g. The next two were over 1200 fps . Can we say just a little bit of dieseling? With the forth shot she settled down and shot 938.1fps. I finished shooting 20 shots and with dropping the the second and third shot , she shot a low of 909.1fps and a high of 956.0fps. These numbers are way higher than I expected and want . hopefully they will come down some when she's broken in more and be a little closer too. After shooting about sixty shots today, I shot some 10 shot groupings with different pellets to see what they would do.  I wound up shooting over 100 shots .Some of the groupings included : CPL's 7.9g.- high 969.6fps, - low 948.9fps ; RWS Superdomes .high -971.1fps, low 952.3fps ( didn't group as well as the others at 20 yards) Beeman Kodiaks,- high 850.1fps, low 832.6fps , then I went back to the JSB's for 10 more and they were , high 941.4fps, low 913.3fps. I could see her leveling out a little after 225 shots had been through her. I would guess a couple hundred more and she'll settle in. The trigger is 3-way adjustable for weight, length of travel of the first stage and position of pull off point. I'm still tinkering with it . The force needed to cock the gun is less or seems to be less than that of the carbine, mainly because of the longer cocking lever. I had no problem shooting over 100 shots today and could have shot more. I'll do some group shooting from the sitting position and report on that later . Right now it's storming again outside. kirby

Geeze Kirby, how am I going to resist spending another bizillion dollars on another English rifle if you keep showing me pics of your TX200s?

I may ponder a TX, tough choice between the big gun and the HC.........   :o

Kirby,

That is absolutely beautiful!  I decided that this will be my next gun and with my birthday coming up in a few weeks, I think it will be soon.  Keep us posted on how it settles down for you.

Jeff

I hate to do it , it's a beautiful , smooth shooting rifle. Compared to my AATX200HC , it cocks easier, it shoots smoother , it's quieter and it seems the shot cycle is faster , but in the accuracy department , it falls short .I've tried several different pellets clean the bore with goo gone , different holds and the HC just out shoots it. Too many flyers . After over 300 pellets through it , it should be settled in , the HC still diesels a little sometimes but I can shoot cloverleafs at 20 yards with it from the sitting position. Maybe it's the longer barrel and I'm moving before the pellet gets gone. I don't know. I'd rather give her up now while I've got the right to return it before I put any scratches on it . kirby

Thanks Bill, It may be me , but if it is I feel like I shouldn't have to shoot one rifle differently from another. Then I would have to become a one rifle person in order to be accurate. And how boring would that be. I just know I shoot the HC a lot better . kirby

I think you should shoot at least 1000 rounds through it Kirby. Then make your decision. That gun is a beauty, and if there is no known physical problems with it, then I would stick with it. Good luck. 8)

Might take her awhile to settle down, my ShadowSport went through 4 tin's before she settled into the fine hunter that she is now. To bad, she's a looker for sure. Ed

Comparing the TX200 MKIII and the HC, which one is louder.  And how well do the baffles in the MKIII work?

Thanks,

Neither to me were very loud . To me ,springers seem louder to the shooter than they do anyone else . If I had to say though the Mark III was a little quieter in actual report . kirby
