Q on legality of airguns for hunting in L.A. County

The 2007 DFG Mammal Hunting Regulations mentions airguns in its legal methods of take
like this:

-----------------
311. Methods Authorized for Taking Resident
Small Game.

Only the following may be used to take resident
small game:

(f) Air rifles firing pellets and powered by compressed
air or gas (0.20 caliber minimum for taking
wild turkey); and firearm rifles and pistols for taking
rabbits and squirrels, except in Los Angeles County,
in addition to the methods listed in (a), (b), (c), (d)
and (e) above.

-----------------

My question concerns that "except in Los Angeles County" statement.

It looks like they're saying that firearm rifles & pistols can't be used to take

rabbits & squirrels in LA County but it's OK to use air rifles.  Is that correct?

Or, are they both illegal to use?
