Repaint of Sheridan EB22 Pistol
« on: October 13, 2007, 11:11:33 AM »
Today i took possession of a Sheridan EB22.

Nicely built apart from the Black finish to the body which is "wearing away" exposing brass.

I did read somewhere they are prone to this and wonder if anyone knows what type of paint would be suitable to refinish it to bring it back to nice looking ?

I am presuming aerosol enamel Ok but any advice welcome from those in the know ?

That is real funny....I got an EB22 today also, and I'm not joking.  I was just surfing around for some trigger "adjusting" info for this gun when I came across this post...coincidence...I think not!

Might ask Alan at ABAirgun.com, http://www.abairgun.com/  he will most likely has the skinny on how to refinish one of these.  I am sure any sort of good rattle can paint would work, but I bet Alan can tell you what to use to make it look like it came from the box that way.

On a side note, how do you like shooting yours?  Mine is in beautiful condition except for one leaky seal, so I have not shot it.  I did manage to waste two 12gram CO2 powerlets though when they leaked out:)

Good luck!

Hi Dan from UK

your like me then - when these things occur (& MANY do to me honestly !) people say - ahhh just coincidence but i refute this - one thing in particular happened to me which convinced me never to think of these happenings as coincidence.

Anyway - thats rather off subject !

I popped few shots yesterday and seems nice - just let down by finish - hopefully will put that right.

Cant believe how cheap these babies are new over yr side - our shop price is virtually double USA listings i looked at before i bought secondhand.

Beggining to wish i had gone for new but Hey Ho - we do these impulsive things in life and hopefully learn from them !

Mine seems to hold its gas OK so i will start "hunting the web" for stripdown info for the refinish job

Regards

Stu

Hey, since you are refinishing, maybe you should see this:

http://www.network54.com/Forum/275684/message/1082498411/

Pretty interesting to say the least.  I really think a plain old rattle can flat or matte black would work, but I really think Alan at AB could give you some good advice on what matches best.  He is very knowledgable, and I'm sure his advice would be free.

I started searching for the problem with my EB and found the little seal that butts up against the powerlet has a cut in it.  I think I have something suitable to repair it with in my garage.  Mine also came with a very nice aftermarket grip from RBGrips, but I have to return that to the previos owner.  I have some nice Cocobolo hardwood left over in the garage that I plan to make into a nice grip set.  These guns are really pretty, and if someone has never owned one they just don't understand.  These are of the same power and performance of a Crosman 2240, but they are all brass and heavy and just make me all warm and fuzzy inside:)  I just want to be able to shoot mine:(

Old post, I know. But you mentioned leaky powerlet (12-g co2). That's getting 2B an expensive misfortune. Any comments on refillable co2 powerlets? Ever seen.

If you can get 100% disassembled, then I'd suggest DuraCoat. Great, hard wearing stuff!

dont think the temps would be high enough to hurt the brass but if you can get it completly broke down brownells sells some great bake on epoxies... they only bake at 300 degreesbut I have no idea if it would effect the brass or not.... and that stuff is SUPER tough

I'm sure the heat won't hurt the brass, but it could weaken any springs or melt any plastic that may be inside.

yea thats why it would have to be completely stripped down to the frame and tubes... dunno if its possible but if it is thats the finish I would suggest...

If you can tear it down,I recommend Brownells Teflon/Moly oven cure finish. I have used it on a few rifle receivers with good results. I bake it at 300º in an old toaster oven and it works great. I comes in a few different colors.I use the dark park grey and matte black.
