I bought the new BSA 4-12X40 AO W/Mil Dot for my new HW 50s. The HW packs a good punch so I thought I would try the BSA out first on it before I went to a Bushy.

A little off the subject of your post, Charles, but I was wondering if any of the .22 CFX crowd have tried any of the light weight pellets?  Beeman has 3 that I know of under 14 gr., the Laser @ 13.36, the Silver Bear @ 12.65, and the Match @ 13.75.  I never tried them in .22, but the .177 Silver Bears were surprisingly good in my .177 CFX.  If it was a firearm bullet, I'd call it a semi wadcutter, semi hollow point.  Good pellet, especially at shorter ranges.
[...]
Dave

I don't know about those you mentioned, but one that does exceptionally well in my .22 CFX is the Beeman Field Target Special (aka H&N FTS), which drops five inside 1/2" @ 25 yards.
It also turns out to be the flatest shooting pellet out of that rifle by far, requiring only one mil dot holdover @ 50 yards.

Out-of-stock at the moment, Gene, but thanks for the link! They'll notify by email when they are back in stock.

Charles

How about the same scope that I have riding on my .177 CFX, Centerpoint 4-16x40 red/green illuminated mil-dot scope?
I like mine quite a lot, and you can get them at Wal-Mart for $70.

Hey Scott, that price for the centerpoint looks good. All of the Wally Worlds around me have pretty much cut out most if not all the powder burners and only Daiseys left for air rifles. Only have found one store that has a decent scope and that is a Bushy 4-12X40AO that is a bit more expensive. What part of the world do you live in Scott.

So far, the only guns Wal-Mart sells in my neck of the woods (East Central Indiana) are muzzle loaders and Daisy and Crosman airguns, plus (of course) a few paintball and AirSoft guns.
That scope is very nice, but it is also the absolute maximum length I could recommend using on my .177 CFX, due to the loading port.
One thing that really impresses me about the Centerpoint/Leapers scopes is that their AO numbers are almost perfectly on the money rangewise.

By the way Scott, I am originally from Plainfield Indiana... I did get a chance to get over to the far side of the big city today and found a Wally World that had the CenterPoint Scopes.. My impression was that they are nicely made but man are they heavy.. lol Got to holdaCenterPoint and held a Bushy 4-12X40 at same time and what a difference in weight. Put both down real quick.. hehe. And that Wally World only had Diaseys and a couple Crosman along with paintballs guns..

Gene, I found a WM Centerpoint (Crosman?) 4-16X40mm red and green illum. mil dot reticle with rings (Weaver, but I've got dovetails that will fit) and caps for quite a decent price with discount.  It will allow breech access, but I'm a bit worried about the larger front bell, so gonna take the CFX in with the lower part of my rings attached and see if the scope bell will clear.

Looked very nice, and played with it for a bit.

Any history on this scope, I need to know about?

Thanks...Charles

Oh, yeah!
Plainfield is on the other side of the big town from me.
You will be saddened to know that the sporting goods retailer Galyan's headquartered there is no more, thanks to Dick's Sporting Goods pulling a Genghis Khan by parachuting into town a couple of years ago.

I can help you out with that Centerpoint, as I have on riding on my .177 CFX.
I am using B-Square medium height 2-piece rings, but before that, I had it sitting in Accushot/Leapers 2-piece mediums, and it was just fine.
However, I have to consider this scope the absolute longest feasible scope for the CFX.
But it sure works great, and I can shoot 1/2" groups @ 50 yards with Beeman Ram Jets all day with it.
The red/green illumination is a nice bonus for contrast during bright days and for shooting at dusk or dawn.

[Edit]
Damn!  I meant 25 yards.
Hoo boy!
I don't want to come off as some boastful boob.
Sheesh!

CenterPoint 4-16X40 Illum. Mil Dot Pics
« Reply #25 on: November 01, 2007, 03:41:15 PM »
Thanks, OP! I mounted it (CenterPoint 4-16X40 MM Illum. Red & Green Mil Dot) tonight, and couldn't get over how bright it was, even in low light.  Turned-on the red and green reticle, and was wowed again.  I don't like the concentric terracing effect of the reflected light (inside), but will have to live with it.  This is my first mil dot scope, and see already the advantages for range dependent "hold".

It is indeed the longest scope that would work on the CFX.  Pellets that fit snugly into the breech take some time to seat, as it's tight going in front of the bell.  The weight between it and the 4X32 I had on it, is very noticeable.

I see already a bipod is a must have at high power.  I've got a collapsable monopod, but I'm too shaky with it.  Picked this one up for 63.00 (with discount) at the local WM.  Came with Weaver mount rings (didn't use them) and flip-caps.  Used the Gamo rings/mounts that came with the CFX Combo, worked fine.  Wasn't keen on getting high mounts for it, at all.

I don't like how the front bell protective cover is mounted.  It has to mate with ridges in the scope bell.  This is a PITA, when adjusting parallax at various ranges, as the cover hinge will be off center of 12 o'clock, depending on range, even when adjusted to the closest ridges.  The problem is the cover tabs will hit the rear sight, and you have to realign the cover, so they clear.  No, I'm not going to remove the rear sight! I'll cut the tabs off first.  Yah, yah, this is an obsessive/compulsive niggle, but the older I get, the worse these things irritate me.  It's called set in my ways...

Gonna play with the Gamo 4X32 that came off this .22, and put it on my .22 QB-57 for gits and shiggles.

A coworker said the rifle now looked "evil", whatever that means.

Below are some lo-res pics of this monster on my .22 Gamo CFX rifle.:emoticon:

r1derbike,

I see you have a scope mount riser on your rifle. Is that the Gamo riser and is it only to raise your scope level? Does it aid at all with the scope creep that is so famous with springers? I'm upgrading the optics on my BigCat and haven't yet decided on my mounts.

Thanks,
Mike

Zoltar, the mounts are the ones that came with the Gamo .22 CFX combo, which had a 4X32 Gamo scope (think it is a BSA).  I didn't use the included Weaver rings/mounts  The Gamo mounts utilize the rear scope mount post hole, to keep the scope from traveling.  Have not had any issues with creep yet.  Was going to site-in and group the scope today, but a water heater calcium dump took me most of the day to get squared-off.

How about a Centerpoint 4-16x40 rom WalMart for $69.95? I've had one for a couple of months, used it both on the S1K springer and my BSA Ultra pcp. It has clear and accurate ranging. The best is that the lifetime warranty is from Crosman, which has excellent customer service, should one need to use it.
