QB-88
« on: November 07, 2007, 11:06:47 PM »

This is not mine, but I had a chance to shoot and open one up yesterday,so I thought I would pass along my thoughts. I first made a few shots and it was actualy a nice shooter, I think it has about 500pellets through it. There was a little twang and cocking was very smooth, considering the chinese machining and mystery oil. I opened her up to find that it has a rolled metal 2peice spring guide, that actualy fit the spring. There was almost no lube inside at all, but that's about to be taken care of. The seal is leather and was very dry, I have been using a baseball glove leather conditioner on my B-3 seal since '96, with no problems and this one received the same treatment. I also put several wraps of plumbers teflon tape around the seal insert, to snug it up alittle. There were a few small burs around the cocking slot that were addressed, did my quick trigger polish and it was time to reassemble. I lubed her up with some moly, silicone dielectric grease and put her back together. I was only able to get about 20 shots lastnight before it got dark, but she responded very well to her little treatment and I think the owner will be pleased. The only china gun that I have to compare it to is the B-3 and there is no comparison. This QB-88 was almost as smooth as a deburred, lubed B-3 out of the box and with alittle work is alot better. I think I'm gonna have to slip one past the wife, south summit has them for 49.95 right now.

LOL Mike, and I told you I had been looking at them as well.. A good buy at that price and probably would make a great shooter with a bit of TLC..:)

I have to agree with everything Mike said about the QB-88 ; after all, it’s my rifle.  In addition, it’s good to have a knowledgeable guy like Mike close to home because he is providing me some helpful information about air rifles.  :)

Thanks for the kind words Gary and I'm glad you liked the outcome. I will be ordering one very soon, as I made my best ever 3shot groups, twice, with this rifle this morning. The first was 1ragged hole, the second was 1hole. Still trying to decide if I want to get the QB-36 also.

I'm a big fan of the 88.
I think it's the same as the 57 with a different stock so it's smooth quiet and very accurate.
If I remember right it was shooting around 750 fps after a good teardown cleaning/lube.
I don't shoot mine as much as I used to but your report will have me taking her back out for a few rounds and re-sighting the N-Star 6x32 I'm sure.
As for the 36, you know to be sure it is the -2.
I read terrible things about the 36 but went ahead and bought the QB36-2 anyway.
It has become one of the most interesting, entertaining and fun guns in my collection, it's big and has a real presence.
look here for my impression,

The 88 is a very fun, light weight, plinker that you could shoot all day. Had something come up and had to put on hold for a little while tho.:0
