CO2 Cold Weather Fix
« on: December 03, 2007, 08:43:04 AM »
Hello All,
I have invented a fool way to keep a CO2 rifle working at full power in the cold :)
Just shoot from my dinning room through the large open French windows and out into my garden  :D
With the fire place roaring we are all toast.
My apologies for the silly post but I have missed shooting my tuned QB78 and I had to do something  :emoticon:
regards,
Alan

I shoot from inside all the time.  It really throws the squirrels for a loop lol :)  They always run when they hear the door open or close but if I leave a window cracked open they never now what hit them.

When it's too cold down here to shoot outside I move into my garage upstairs , it's not heated , but at least it's out of the weather. On a sunny day , by the afternnon it gets pretty nice up there. kirby

Is a short range thing...but from inside my work shed, across to a stoarge shed, is 53feet...not a whole bunch of distance, but inside the work room it's AC in the summer or heat in the winter, keeping things comforatable.

I normally shoot from inside thru open patio door as window not possible (out of sight seems best bet and these moden UPVC windows dont open fully like the old wood ones - blast !!)

With the turn in the weather here in UK and no "roaring fire" like Alan i am finding the incoming wind is making the house very cold (and incoming rain can make it wet too !).

Now how do i rotate a whole street so the garden is on the less windy side !! I guess i will have to "pick my moments" Bah !

The tree rats get on my wood pile and I like to pick them off through my kitchen window. They never know what hit them.

So far this Winter I haven't had a problem. My solution is to leave my bulk bottle attached to the gun via a paintball remote and the bottle is worn on a shoulder sling.  The bottle is prewarmed and fitted with a home-made neoprene cover.  The whole bottle in turn is slipped into my large telephoto lens bag along with a couple of re-usable hand warmers.  The whole unit is completely mobile and most of all the power output is consistent, as the bottle is warm and insulated from the cold, and at the top of its range.  No sweat.  8)

Glad you brought this up Steven.. Ed "aka Shadow" and I were discussing ways to keep the CO2 stable while hunting in freezing temps. I think your idea is fantastic. Ed and me may have another solution and when it is tested we will be coming fourth with the idea..

Thanks For Sharing Steven
