Had no errands to do this morning so decided to head over to the duck farm and do some starling sniping. Grabbed the .22 cal black shadow, a tin of RWS Super HP's and my portable folding hunting stool and headed for the farm. When I got there it was amazing, there were huge flocks of starlings descending on the big box feeders. I wish I had brought my camera to post some pics of the flocks of birds, it was amazing, there were literally thousands of birds. I know that sounds like an exageration but it's not, that's how many birds were there. Anyway, at the very back of the pens of the duck farm there is a thin strip of woods bordering small fresh water creek that runs through the farm property. The feeders, and a couple of the roosting trees, were with 20 yards of the woods so I built a small blind out of some brush and tree limbs just inside the woods, set up my stool and waited. Didn't have to wait long. A huge flock of starlings landed in the roosting tree within 2 minutes. I picked out a bird and bam,,, the first kill of the morning. The entire flock took off after the shot, but within a few minutes they were back again. There were so many birds the hardest part was picking out a target with them hopping all over the tree from branch to branch. All the leaves in this huge tree also made it difficult to get a clear shot at times, but the shooting was constant. The little stream running just a few feet away also gave me a nice cool little breeze to keep the heat bearable. I sat there for about 2 hours and banged away with good success. I took home all the birds that fell into the open pens so I could post some photos, but there were alot of birds that after being shot fell into the thick briars and wild blackberry patches surrounding my blind area so I couldn't retrieve them. I would've stayed longer but one of the other guys who shoots at the farm showed up with his 12 guage shotgun and began shooting so the flocks became to spooky so I called it a day.
