Pellet Choice Changed.......
« on: February 10, 2008, 01:35:30 PM »

Yesterday I was sighting in my old friend...:)Gamo S1K .177 L/W 12" choked barrel.. From the beginning she loved the Beeman FTS pellets. After a full tin of the Beeman FTS pellets I was getting pretty disgusted with the groups. They just kept getting worse. So I tried Gamo's, RWS, JSB Exacts, Gamo Tomawks, and a load of others. So after my right shoulder started to bother me from raising and lowering the air rifle I decided to try Crosman Primiers. CP's were the last pellets on my list because none of my Gamo's really like them.. Sure enough that was the magic pellet.. LOL... I shot about another 100 pellets and was very satisfied with the groups. I will have to go back again and shoot some more of them. This was one of my S1K's that was originally a .177 stock gamo barrel. I was so happy with the .20 L/W on my other S1K that I wanted a .177 with the L/W choked barrel. This barrel has some history..:) Originally the regular length barrel but I had bought it from @!#*%$ and turned out to be a defect. Sent it back and got another defect. Sent it back again and he sent me a barrel that he had cut down because of a tight spot in the barrel. Ya a long story..:) This barrel also was mis machined. The distance between the breach end of barrel to shoulder was to short. So the breach seal did not sit flush but was recessed. ..:(CDT helped me put the fix on it and a bunch of other work to make it right. Now she is a very nice shooter. Smooth action and cocks like pulling a knife through butter..:) Again I am taking the time to go through all my air rifles and re sight them and make sure they still are deadly accurate..:)

I recently tried CPL's in my 12 FPE Carbine and my Classic , I had been shooting JSB's with pretty good results . But at 30 yards one day last week while shooting sitting in the field target position , the CPL's out shot the JSB's by a little bit . Enough to make me switch .Every little bit helps . Well , today Jon and I were at the range shooting some field targets and I was doing pretty good for the first 5 or 6 lanes and then the wind picked up . I noticed I was missing more than usual and I was waiting for the wind to slack before shooting ; at least it looked that way to me. On about lane 8 on a target at 35 yards , I missed the target completely . My next shot was 1 1/2" to the right of the kill zone on the face plate . I couldn't believe the wind would blow my pellet off that far , especially when I was waiting for a slack period . I never has this happen with my JSB's . The next target was around 46+ yards and needless to say I zero that target twice also. I've got some experimenting to do , but I think I'll be going back to my JSB's for field target work. I know Jon had this problem last year while shooting Kodiaks in the wind . They would shoot great for him when it was a calm day , but when the wind picked up, they'd be all over the place on the longer shots. kirby
