There is a Texas Shooting Events Discussion Forum.. at:  http://www.gatewaytoairguns.com/airguns/forums/forum-view.asp?fid=26

Since Texas is so big do we need to split it up?...:)

I'm in San Antonio!  I live close to Marbach and 410.  Most of the shooting I do is in my yard and then the occasional "Urban Safari."  Where do you shoot?  What guns are you packing?

Don't rush to open up another one yet , two people just don't hardly make a club LOL. it could be a start though. I know there are others from around here, or close by. Had a friendly get together at a rifle range, guess the cost of using turned most off. haven't talked to any of them since Nov.  hopefully as the weather warms up, we'll  do it again, and anyone around here is welcome to join in.
your right about Texas being so big. Most of the land belongs to someone, not me  :-(  but them that have usually don't share with them that don't.

Thanks for taking the initiative, Buster.

Yeah, I don't get out much.  When I last checked, San Antonio's city code forbid shooting springers inside the city limits, but PCPs were okay.

Donno what Bexar County rules are, but almost all the incorporated areas I've checked on address the discharge of airguns.

I've been out to the I-10/Trainer Hale site in northeast Bexar, but never found anyone there who could give me access to the ranges.  Bad timing, I guess.

I'll shoot most often at Dietz (Texas 46 between New Braunfels and Boerne); then Bracken (just north of Rolling Oaks Mall on Nacogtoches) and finally, the Bullet Hole on Grossenbacher Rd. Shoot a bit of skeet and 5 Stand on Randolph AFB, but I'm a rank beginner and lucky to break 13 out of 25.

I'd sure like to get together before the Texas summer gets here, and would like to avoid the snakes, scorpions and chiggers.

Wow... I wasn't aware of any city codes against airguns.  I will have to look that up.  I don't see why a springer is illegal to shoot...doesn't make sense, but that wouldn't be the first time San Antonio wrote something stupid into the code.  I figure they could always get you for disturbing the peace if they really wanted to screw with you.

I did some research....this may be handy to many of you regardless of the city you live in.  I went to http://www.municode.com which has city codes for several large cities and towns.  Anyway a search for San Antonio codes relating to air guns found the following:

http://www.municode.com/resources/gateway.asp?pid=11508&sid=43  (use search function for "gun/guns")

Sec. 21-13. Missiles.
It shall be unlawful for any person within the city to throw stones or other missiles, or to shoot with a bow and arrow, or to shoot or discharge any stone or other missile with or from a sling or from an elastic spring.
(Code 1950, § 41-15; Code 1959, § 26-20)

(intent is against sling-shot use, see the last section below for a detailed definition of an air gun.)

-------------------

Sec. 21-151. Definition of firearm.
As used in this article, the term "firearm" shall mean any device designed, made, or adapted to expel a projectile through a barrel by using the energy generated by an explosion or burning substance or any device readily convertible to that use.
(Ord. No. 79328, § 1, 12-16-93)

(city code if written using the definition of firearm discharge, no reference to air guns)

-------------------

Sec. 21-14. Air gun or spring gun; furnishing to minor.
It shall be unlawful for any person within the city to sell to, or give to, or place in the possession of, any person under the age of sixteen years, any gun which discharges a bullet or missile by means of compressed air, or any gun discharging a bullet or missile by means of a spring.
(Code 1950, § 41-19; Code 1959, § 26-26)
Cross references:  Regulation of firearms and weapons, § 21-151 et seq.

(only real reference to air guns in city code)

-------------------

You may want to do a search for noise in the code...that may cover using PCPs and Pumpers that are loud.  There are some references in the health code about disposing of animal waste properly...ie pick up and dispose my grackles : (

When I hunt semi-publicly I try to be as discrete as possible.  I think a random cop would probably still arrest me and sort out the law later.  Worst case scenario would be a hefty ticket...I think.  Of course shooting on my property or anyone elses property with permission, as long as I don't make too much noise, is completely kosher.
