Hey, Gene, I thought you already had, like, a bazillion and a half air guns :-) !  Don't know much, but from what I do know, it sounds like you're describing a Beeman R7.  Of course, you didn't say anything about price...

Price is not a major factor Dave. The Beeman does not meet my specifications with FPS...:)

The .177 only gets "471-698 advertised fps" .. Guess the .20 would barely make 400 fps....:)

Any other suggestions...

Thanks

Closest I can find is a Theoben SLR98 and it's not in .20 cal. Either .177 or .22

Weight: 6.1

Stock: right hand Walnut stock is fitted with a chequered pistol grip and forend is standard

FPS:  679-904 (.177) or 553-725 (.22)

Trigger: Evolution Trigger is a two-stage system with adjustment for second stage weight and travel down to 1½ lbs pull and also has an automatic safety catch.

Price? a mere $1,069 @ SS =D

I think that gun shooting a heavier .177 like a JSB .177 DIABOLO EXACT HEAVY would be pretty close to a .20 cal in anything.

According to SS's info, a pellet in the 10 range should give you over 700 fps in the SLR98.

Basically what you want is a .20 barreled Gamo with a GRT-III.

Ya I got an idea, but your gonna have to give just a little bit in the weight department.
Beeman/HW R9:
Weight: 7.3 lbs. (between you & me this spec has to vary a little with different woods)
Stock: Beech, but someone may have it in composite. (hell, if I knew everything I'd be king :) )
Caliber: .20
Velocity: 800 fps
Trigger: Two stage Rekord. On the short list of the best triggers in the world.
I've never owned an R9, I do own a new R7 & an old HW50s. In my opinion, arguable as it is, H. Weihrauch produces some of the finest airguns in the world.

Where's your info coming from, Gene?  According to Beeman's web site, the R7 in .20 cal. produces 620 fps and 739 fpe.  Did I miss something?

Yup, missed something, like 700-800 fps.  BTW, 739 fpe in the previous post should have been 7.9.  Sorry.

According to Straight Shooters, the .177 clocks in at 471-698 fps.

An 11 gr pellet in .177 is good for 497 fps
An 8.9 gr Beeman FTS is 604 fps

Considering the lightest .20 cal ammo I can find are 9.2 gr Beeman Lasers, I don't see how people are going to break 600 fps with a .20 cal R7.

If you read the fine print, they claim that "All velocity and muzzle energy figures for sporting guns were achieved with Silver Bear pellets under controlled conditions. Your results may vary due to changes in altitude, temperature, humidity and equipment."

The Silver Bear in .20 is a 9.88 gr pellet. I just don't see that breaking 600 fps in a real world test.

Think nmmike has it nailed...proably the best combination of power, weight, and refinement.  Can always remove the butt pad and drill your way at least a little bit closer to your weight limit if  it is that important to you (isn't to me...heavy springers are more enjoyable to shoot).

Been thinking about the .20...seems to actaully be decreasing in popularity.  All the good things printed about the caliber are true...but it seems fewer are interrrested in it today than were 10years ago.  Even new .20 Sheridans (OK...are Crosman-Benjamin-Sherididans...whatever) are few and far between.

2 questions:

1) how much do they go for and

2) how difficult is it to rebarrel a shadow to the .20 walther?

The Walther .20 barrel, it is a Choked barrel also. The only thing is to get this price I can only cold blue the barrel but it is Quality bluing. I can make the barrel any lenght from 19 " to as short as you want it.

You need to remove the barrel and pivot block from your rifle, remove the barrel pivot sleeve and detent assembly. The pivot sleeve is what holds the barrel in the block. It comes out kinda hard but heating the pivot block with a propane torch makes it come right out.
Then screw the .20 barrel in place putting a drop of blue locktite on the threads, reinstall the barrel "O" ring,  it fell out when you removed the .177 barrel. Assemble the rifle and stick a pellet in it and shoot.

$75  includes the shipping.
Comes with a Fluted Muzzle Brake fitted to the barrel.
