WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE GAMO RIFLE AND WHY ?
« on: March 25, 2008, 04:46:41 AM »

Hey GAMO Owners,

What is your FAVORITE GAMO RIFLE and WHY ?

I have a Gamo 890 Hunter and I love it, It is light and handy, and is very accurate with CPP's. It is well balanced andisa quick and a natural pointer. I fell in love with it after I put a GRT-III trigger on her, unlike many here, it took me over 5 years to find this little beauty, and I still smile when I pick her up and see the Gold Trigger on her, It made an enormous difference to my accuracy and the enjoyment factor whenI shoot her ! :-)

Bill,

My favorite Gamo? Hmmmm... It depends on what I am going to be doing with it. If I want to plink in the back yard,  I like my Hunter 440. The break action is quicker than the rotary breech loading of the CFX. Now, if I want to knock the stuffing out of a nut muncher, I grab the CFX. It is the most accurate of my stable and I would rather have a well placed shot than not. If I am going out in the woods to shoot, where I know the gun will be subjected to the elements, I grab my old S1K. The synthetic stock will take a beating and this rifle is lighter than the CFX so it is easier to carry on a long hike.

Just my opinions!

Ron

Hey everyone.  Kinda new to the forum.  My favorite is the hunter 220. It is very accurate with all the pellets ive tried. This rifle is five years old and has been dropped down a flight of stairs( long story) when I picked it up the scope was still zeroed.  Best part is I bought it from Dicks sporting goods for $50.00. It is and will always remain my go to gun.                 Peejay

Well Bill I'm with you on the hunter series they are really nice rifles and with just a little work I think they are fantastic guns for the money. I have two, a Hunter Elite that received the full CDT treatment and a Natchez ninety nine dollar 440 that's my on going project rifle. There is no doubt the Elite takes first place. It's a real powerhouse and you just can't beat the looks. There are no disappointments with this gun, oh there is one, I can't get one in .22. The 440 is a great looker also. It doesn't quite have the power of the Elite but there are some Starlings around that really couldn't tell the difference. The best part of the 440 has been learning to dissemble, clean, lube tune, add a gold trigger and reassemble a Gamo. Now I are a expert too. Ha!

I too am fairly new to air rifles although I have several firearms.  Glad to see someone else has the Hunter Elite.  Had mine a couple of weeks and just installed the GRT-III.  First time I'd removed the stock, but like Charley says...takes about 10 minutes if you keep track of where you lay the screws and stuff.

Really enjoy shooting the Elite.  Took it to a range last week end and tried to zero in the scope at 30 yards (factory trigger).  Finally got a five shot group to about two to three inch spread, but was not using a good rest and it was breezy.  Was fun and I was happy.  Anxious to zero in with new trigger.

Question Walt, do you have a favorite wadcutter for paper targets...RWS Meisterkugeln seem pretty consistent?

Hey Walt,

If you realy want a .22 cal. you could always have a new barrel put on her !

Gene had one of his Shadows made into a .20 cal., my favorite cal. ! And he has been very happy with the power and accuracy of his new Lother Walter barrel ! So why not do that to one of your Gamo rifles and have what you want ? Of course you could also look for a use Gamo rifle in .22, they do pop up from time to time. :)

The Shadow 1000 I bought 4+ years ago and has a gazillion pellets through it. Still prefer it over my 220 or 440, or even my CFX. It's tied with the CFX as the easiest to shoot well, although the CFX (I think) is a hair more consistent.

I really like my CFX (.22)  Why? Because it’s the only Gamo I own! However, it is one of my favorites in the stable.  She is accurate and very forgiving when it comes to compensating for my sometimes inconsistent shooting habits. :o  I know, practice, practice, practice!!!!!!!!!

I have had some pistols in the past, but my CFX is my first rifle.  Just got it this morning, put the scope on and get er sighted in.  It shoots better than my other rifles, as far as acuracy, and I like the feel of it.  Its a lil hefty, but I like that in a rifle myself.  Being 6'2" and 260lbs I  am sure wouldnt have anything to do with it......right?

I started out with a S1K and kept buying Gamo's untill last fall. I own 12 of them now and love to shoot each and everyone of them..:) I have moded three of the S1K's. 2 of them have L/W choked barrels which are fantastically accurate..:) Those two have the CDT GRT-III trigger  installed. One of them is a .20 and the other is .177. The third S1K . 177 has had a complete turbo tune which includes a CDT GRT-III trigger and it is a great hunting rifle. I also own three CFX's.. One of them is a synthectic stock .177 and is extremely accurate. The second and third CFX's are Royals with great wood. One in .22 which I purchase from the UK and the other is a .177 which was purchased here. All three of them have been turbo tuned with a CDT GRT-III trigger installed. I have a Hunter 440, which I have not shot yet and has had not work done on it yet..:) A Recon and Sporter which have not been shot yet and still need a turbo tune and triggers. I have some more up stairs but forgot which ones they are.. hehe

I love the two SIK's with the L/W barrels on them for target shooting. They both sport Simmons ProAir Scopes with accushot mounts. The .177  S1K I like to hunt with. The rest of the Gamo's that I own and have shot are very sweet to plink with.

I love them al Big Bill...:) Cannot just pick one.. hehe

Not too experienced with air rifles also.  Just got three Gamos in the past month...A Big Cat, Whisper and a Viper.  For accuracy the Viper comes in first, the Whisper 2nd and the Big Cat third.  The Whisper is the quietest (Of course...), the Viper the "Twangest"...but holds steady and the Big Cat the lightest.  But I love them all.... :)  ....they're doing their stuff, I just need to do mine.
Gamo: Expotec .177 + Big Cat .177 + Viper .177 + Whisper .177, Hammerli Titan .177, Diana model 24 .177, RWS-Diana P5 Magnum pistol .177, Crosman: G1 Extreme .177 + Storm XT .177 + Sierra Pro .177 + 1377 pistol .177, Air Arms S410SL .22, BSA Scorpion T10 .22, FX Cyclone .177, Remington Air Master 77 .177 + BB\'s,

Yeah Gary, I REALLY liked that one also, hated to let her go :0 but she's in a good home and still comes to visit. :)  So my fav now would have to be my S1K, she's had alot of work and shoots a smooth, consistant 940. 8)

Well buddy,

I don't have that problem...yet, but I LOVE my 890, and she treats me good.

maybe we can have Fix make you up a fixture so that you can shoot 4 or 5 airguns at atime? LOL

What a GREAT Collection you have Gene, you have stock in Gamo that you can enjoy :)
