Thanks Dave1899. That is a nice little summary.
Also, rule 9:
"Help Internet Newbies
Be patient and helpful with others. Remember, everyone was a newbie once."
So that is the other edge of the sword, so to speak. My face has been glued to the internet (when it wasn't up to a scope, or looking down a shotgun or arrow) for the last 15 years, making me a relative newbie. Some folks think the web is kinda like a teletype or just plain suck at typing. The intent is OK, only the effect is rude as perceived by others.
I still think the English language is really interesting and the rules and conventions are how we convey feeling along with meaning. Caplockers lose a chance to convey emphasis and emotion, and are perceived as rude by others, even if they don't intend it.A short kind word offline might help, or not, and they are free to choose, of course. People can drive 55 in the fast lane, too. We have to let them live

as well.
I also associate the decay of English usageand spelling with the decline of the West, but if I feel strongly enough I will post an essay on that in its own thread.

It's just a little thing. Mandarin (Simplified)won't have upper and lower case.
