You've got to be kidding me
« on: November 14, 2009, 06:02:49 PM »
I've seen a couple references to someone called "Fast Eddie" promoting some sort of petroleum based product for use in springers. Yikes! Then on another forum I saw that this guy has his own forum. Well, curiosity got the better of me and I tracked it down..

In short, WTH! Is he trying to kill people?!?!?!? It's not just "slick 50" that he recommends putting into springers, but he also recommends "flooding" the chamber with WD40 now too! Of course he is smart enough to put "This report is for reading purposes only, if you make and use these mixtures, you do it at your own risk. " at the bottom of his page explaining his lubing and cleaning techniques.

He also appears to be in love with PBA pellets, claiming they give acceptable accuracy out to 33 yds. And he thinks that Gamo farce of a video showing the hog being killed is just peachy. Of course, every 10th post is a link to some amazing find or 'bargain' on his own Amazon page. "Slick" indeed.

I'm SO glad this is the first airgun forum I decided to really check out. Lord knows what I could be doing right now acting on that clown's advice. The thought of Slick 50 + WD40 + PBA makes me shudder.

No link. I don't want anyone stumbling into there and believing and/or attempting some of that crap.

Okay, I feel better now. Just had to shed some incredulity.

one of my springers with WD40...it shoots good for a few 100 shots till the
leather seal drys out..its only 500fps...on a very good day....

maybe I skimmed his stuff too fast to give it a fair evaluation then. But he still came off as a bit loony to me.

LOL....I would never do it to a 1000fps gun...asking for trouble
Only get away with it as it hasn't got enough power to cause a prob
and as much air prob comes out the back as dose out the barrel...
yer just got to love those chinaman...

In my gun it would be true if I accept that, "acceptable accuracy out to 33 yards" means I only need to be able to hit my barn at that range !!!! :D  :D  :D

"Slick" Eddie first started promoting using WD-40 (as a cleaner) and then Slick 50 Automotive Formula(as a lube) in airguns many years ago, around 2002 I think. I think he started doing it in the lower powered Chinese (which probably had leather seals and really would not harm too much) springers he sold on his site. I think it just balloned from there. I'm not defending his "home brew", just saying. How many other people on airgun forums post links to sites where they sell stuff? A lot. Can't really blame him for trying to drum up some business. As far as the PBA ammo goes, I can't comment. I haven't read his forum in years, as it basically went inactive (no posting), plus there were better ones.

I've seen his name come up once in a while, usually as a result of some knowledgeable shooter warning folks off. Can you imagine that stuff in a 1250 or Patriot? Dangerous results which can ruin both gun and shooter. Even his warning is subject to a good lawyer if it can be intrepreted as an "exculpatory clause". You can't warn away liability for practices or products that are downright hazardous. Just might catch up to him some day.
