GTA is getting stale here
« on: October 31, 2009, 10:08:00 AM »
Guess we're all busy trying to get in the last shots before it gets cold out.  No excuse for you Southerners.  But I noticed the GTA boards are getting a bit stale.  So I thought I throw out another provocative thread just to get our keyboard juices flowing...

So chime in on  your thoughts of...*Quality or Quantity?*  Would you rather have three really nice rifles or would you be bored?  Would you rather have a dozen or two to keep you interested?  What are your thoughts?  And the rule is you can't say I'd like to have a dozen high end rifles!

So sound off ladies and gents...

I had over 12 new rifles from september 2008 until now.  I sell a lot and kept just 3 good rifles. Why?  Too many rifles in my case do not make me enjoy them as I want.

 How is that?

With 3 rifles I shoot more with every rifle and I do not loose the technique to shoot every rifle by it self.  I kept 3 different rifles to shoot,

RWS 48, WHISPER VH and a Marauder.  Every rifle is different in weight and in the case of the RWS is a little stronger in the kick.

Three rifles just by now until something very exciting comes to the market as the new revolution.

I have another rifle hard case empty for it... you know in case of EMERGENCY!!!

If it had to be quality or quantity I'd choose quality.  3 or 4 quality rifles would give me everything I would need for all aspects of shooting.  I'd want one quality target rifle... perhaps a TX... for plinking,,,,,  I'd want one magnum springer for small game hunting and I'd want one quality PCP with adjustable power.    Those 3 rifles would give me everything I would need to plink and hunt.

Jeff you are absolutly right. So when you gonna put up all those other babies on the Classifieds?...:)

I have owned over 100 air guns in the last 5 years but not all at the same time..:) Down to 30 or so now. I finally have it down to certain springers and PCP's that really turn my screws to shoot..:) I honestly do not think I could just have 3 or 4 because there are so many nice shooters available out there with different aspects of shooting, handling and the ones I have now I just love em..:)

I do not think I am finished either..:) I will keep buying and selling, trading as I love these darn shooters..

Hmmm,

Looks like we might be closet collectors who really say fewer is better.  What do you others have to say?

Andy

P.S.  I may just be revealing which side of the aisle I sit as I just saw a post for a Slavia 631 so guess I'm at 3 quality shooters plus a bunch of others...

I'd pick quality, .... when I can afford it.  But for me, that doesn't mean they have to be pretty, just very good at what the intended use is.

Having said that, my gun assortment grows because I don't sell or trade off guns. I try to research what I want/need, find what meets that, and if it does, I keep it.

I still have my first BB gun that I learned to shoot with over 50 years ago. Handed down from my Grandfather.  And still have the late 50's Winchester 22lr that I've use for Squrrel hunting for over 40 years. First shotgun I've ever owned, first centerfire rifle, etc.

Only guns I ever got rid of was because they stopped making Greeny stick-em caps ! :D

Just a heads up, I got the impression from this post that you keep your rifles stored in hard cases.  If that's the case, DON'T DO IT!  The cases are really only designed for transport, using them for long term storage is a good recipe for rusted rifles, especially if you live in a humid climate.  Not real sure, but I think Puerto Rico qualifies as humid :-).  Later.

I'm gonna go with the quality over quantity crowd here, but with a twist.  I've been up to as many as 10 at once, but that was before I got my first PCP.  I currently have 2 in my possession, with another on the way, and one up for sale.  I seem to be unable to totally give up on springers, but I don't tend to keep them very long.  And even with my PCP's I'll buy one, shoot it for awhile, then sell it or trade it off to get a different rifle.  For the most part that works okay, although I do regret selling my FX Cyclone.  Gonna have to replace that one some day, it was a keeper that I didn't keep.  My AA S200 is in that category, that one I intend to be buried with :-).

But I like to have a variety, even if they're all PCP's.  Once the new one arrives, I'll have 10, 20, and 40 fpe rifles, so I should have all my bases covered.  That said, I suspect that all but the S200 will be looking for new homes sometime in the next year, maybe to help finance a replacement Cyclone :-).  At which point I'll have everything I need in two rifles, not sure what I'll do then to keep from getting bored.  Maybe start playing with big bores :-).  Later.

Hello Andy,

I learned long ago to buy the best that you can afford at the time. If you buy the cheaper products, you may find it hard to recoup your investment when you decide to move up to the next level.

Cheaper products do not seem to last as long, or work as well ! And everyone has their dreams of the air gun of their personal choice !

I have saved up for the product, (air gun) of my dreams, rather than buying a cheaper (less expensive) model, that I will not be totally satisfied with.:emoticon: There is one problem with saving for that special air gun,It's when you finda different air gunat a super good value that's on you want to buy list ! It sets you back until you can afford your dream air gun again. But just think, now you have another air gun of your dreams, at a great price ! :D

So I'm for getting the best, few air guns, that do the job very well, and make you happy with your choices. :D

To be a great shooter, you need to learn your rifle/ pistol very well, having several air guns makes it very difficult to learn any air gun very well. Each lady has their own temperament, and likes !

one of each cal till 25cal 177,20,22,25,two pcps all for different occasion ....i have a 177,22,25 ,now i need a 20cal which will be a r9d.g.,a marauder so when things go right for me i would be in the market for a the two mentioned sometime in march ,to be honest i rather by a used rifle from a well known seller than gettin it from a store and u save money also .i have dealt with a few excellent members here and honestly we trust each other and we have a great understanding of friendship and have never got sold a lemon besides the shark .lately i have been shootin my 350m.22 and b26.177 with iron sights for now but its accurate and the 350m.22 has made improvement so for the last few days about 300hundred in each airrifle.....jorge

i agree with u bill cause lately i been shootin only two airfifles the b26.177 and the 350m.22 i had to put the shark away cause its for hotter days cause its co2 and a 25cal so its more for huntin than anything very accurate the shark rifle is and if u get your hands on the shotgun version that will be a keeper for sure right out of mike melicks mouth he had one and enjoyed it ,we spoke on this topic but its not selling in the u.s. its in agentina ,i was lucky that george from sunshine fixed it for me and he even had to order the supplies from else where but its a great rifle anyway i put it away till next summer..i really will like to start with a condor .22 from talon tunes hooked up with everthing i would need to make it special and a marauder .22 then i would be content that would be 5 the r9.dg would be a 20cal .....

The quality is what I am after. Not so much the looks, but you usually get that in a good rifle, but in the handling and
accuracy. I buy my rifles for one reason, so I can hit what I am shooting at.  I got back into Air gunning because of hunting. I would rather use one any day over a powder burner. I don't know why, I just love the hunt and sport of it.

I don't have a lot of the green stuff so I have had to do some trading and scrounging along the way to get what I
want. I have (ONLY)  had   8 different rifles in the last 11 months. I have had the Marauder twice.
This last one is a keeper along with my new Lonestar. I had the Hornet, now dont get me wrong she was a great rifle,
but I wanted a little more umph at longer ranges.

I am setting right now at two good rifles. If I get another, I will probably have to buy swap and trade again to get
another one that I would be happy with. The wife is wanting one but she has short arms and it cant be to heavy.
It also needs to be able to hunt if needed.  So I guess I am with the crowd here.  Money is hard to come by,
you get what you pay for and you only live once.  You might as well get what you really want/need.
3 good rifles over quantity.
