My New Flying Dragon!
« on: September 04, 2008, 05:21:53 AM »
No pics yet 'cause I haven't received it, but Mike Melick said he'd be shipping it today. I emailed him the other day for a deluxe but he's out of them. He had one fully tuned standard .22 ready to go though and it's his last one until October. I can't wait, especially after all the good things I've been reading about the Flying Dragon guns. Now I'm more of a synthetic stock person. I don't mind the wood stock, but if there's an opportunity to switch I'd do it. Does anyone know if there are any custom synthetics available for the QB's, or perhaps something that can be modified to work?

Congratulation Jay on your new QB. You could not of bought one of those any better than from Mike. Mike is the word on those and many other's. I am sure you will just love it and will be showing off pictures of it very soon.:) As far as a synthetic stock goes, maybe someone else may chime in and give you some help on that.

Thanks guys - this'll be my first tuned co2 gun and I'm pretty excited.  I'm not familiar with QBs at all and can't picture how 2 co2 powerlets would go in, but I guess I'll just wait and see.  Anything I need to know as a new and first time QB owner/shooter, other than take it out and start shooting and having a blast?

Unscrew the pressure tube end cap. Put a drop of Crossman Pell Gun Oil on the nipple end of each cart. Drop one cart. in nipple forward, toward the trigger, drop the other on top, nipple out, towards the muzzle. Screw the pressure tube cap on as far as it will go, snug. Back the cap off till you feel the CO2 presure lock the cap, about 1/8 to 1/4 turn. Cock the bolt, snap off a "dry" shot to pierce the receiver end cart. Let the CO2 temp. warm a bit and go shootin.'

You can always refinish your stock with spray on bedliner. It looks like a synthetic stock and is very durable.

Keep the threads of the cap oiled, too.  It helps.

That's close to what I had in mind Jaymo, but I was thinking of doing a camo job.  I'm going to order a replacement stock and do work on that one in case I mess things up.

Remember we have a camo design specialist in the GTA "Shadows Camo Designs". He does awsome work at a fair price. Several of the GTA members including myself have had our air rifles camoed by the Ed, aka "Shadow". Here is a picture of my B-3 that he did. Good luck

I use silicone oil on the cap threads, because it's what I use on the cap seal. I had one 78 that had a cap that was tighter than a nun's cherry, and another that was loose as a goose. so I swapped caps between them, and now they both have caps that fit perfectly.

I wonder if a shadow camo job applied over bedliner would be a good, durable, grippy option. I have no doubts whatsoever about Ed's awesome camo jobs. I just wonder how well the paint would stick to the bedliner. If it works, it would be sweet. Camo that's as tough as Rhino Liner. Nice texture, too. I'm not crazy about the pebble/stone type paints. They feel awfully rough.

There are three manuals with the rifle, the factory one is OK, really read the other two as they tell you more than you want to know about the QB's,

Wow that looks great Gene.  Yeah I've seen Shadow's work and it's amazing.  I'm planning on trying it out myself on a replacement stock I'll order.  When it comes to painting a wood stock, do I have to completely strip it prior to doing so?  What's the best way to prep wood for paint?
